What do you consider this so called "working wage"? you can only compare apples to apples here porperty management companies pay low wages for waste cleanup (sweeping - cleaning), so why does the city and tax payer get dupedinto paying these people higher wages at the taxpayers expense.

labour unions and their collective suck up such a large amount of tax dollars it is just stupid. Pay the doctors, pay the nurses. Do what green grocers did in the late 80's and bust the dam uninions. Perhaps the "working wage" would be lower if taxes were reduce to normal levels.

we all pay taxes so stop whinning. They deserve a fair working wage. Maybe you should go join the public sector and see how much they really all make. I know the TTC is hiring
I would pay less tax if the public sector paid fair wages. People who accept jobs as bank tellers plainly view their wage as fair or they would quit. Why would it be any less fair for a TTC collector????

My opinion: Union gas bags have a sense of entitlement and somehow feel that the rest of us ought to pay their way.

Mayor Miller is a union stuge

Miller is spending our tax money to keep his union friends happy and asking us to pay for it in the form of user fees and cuts to services and higher taxes. If you think paying someone $40/h to sweep a sidewalk is financially responsible then the conversation ends.

Too many posts to read them all. I will say this: "Mayor Miller is bought and paid for by the unions. He is their guy."

More then union folk voted for Miller my dear friend, and they'll vote again for him next time round too. It was there choice Miller or Tory. Oh ya by the way as posted above nurses are unionized as well by the Ontario Nurses Association, doctors are well protected by the Ontario Medical Association which bargins there fees.

well inflation is running right now at about 1.75% according to the lastest news so I'd give them 1.5% - 2%. However saying that counsellers got like 2.25 or 2.5% and that generally sets a pattern in bargining so we'll just have to wait and see.
Ok so you would basically give them inflation. Not that i think the councillors deserve anything but it seems to me I read where they haven't had a raise for a few years. So would your fascist little union buddies agree to that ? Wage freeze for a couple of years then 2.5 % ?

Counsellers got a 2.5% raise and their what I would call management, they vote and run the city, saying that if management gets it why shouldn't the
worker get 2.5% as well?.

Yes but only every few years, not every year, same as the councillors.

give the poor workers a raise and stop your whinning. Who cares how much they make, they provide essential services for the public. I bet you make in the 6 digits so don't worry about a poor guy who pushes a broom around and tries to make a living for his family.

You don't get it. You are completely fucking clueless. I care because it's MY money, I pay their fucking salaries.

Your sense of entitlement is breathtaking, you seem to believe everyone else in society should give you a free ride.

The customer pays for products and services. Who did you vote for in the last Toronto election? You pay a very small percentage of their wages.
You don't get something for nothing at least not last time I checked.

I pay over half my income to the combined federal, provincial, and munipal taxes that I face and MOST of that goes to wages. My perception is that in many cases I am paying something for nothing.

That is my money and if you don't understand why I would want it to be well spent--well fuck you, you're a moron.

It is spent well it buys the city municipal services.

TTC
garbage pick up
roads
parks and rec
Toronto hydro
ect

Listen, we will always complain about our taxes its just something people have in common to discuss. Some NDPers say we should pay more so we cannot win.

I have shown you evidence that these people are overpaid, and that is MY money that is overpaying them. Were they fairly paid, at every level of government, my tax bill would be significantly cheaper. So would every other Canadian's.

You seem to feel you are entitled to this free ride at our expense.

I don't mind paying taxes what I mind is overpaying.

If a bank can employ a teller for $14/hr why should we be paying more than that for a TTC collector? Just one example.

If we paid proper salaries to public employees we would either be able to get more for our tax dollars or we would be able to cut taxes and pay less.
