Massive protest rallies today, OTB. Careful you don't get lost in the crowd with your new jacket on.onthebottom said:Anyone know where I can get an INS t-shirt or jacket, would be perfect to wear to these rallies.

Can we make it about songs instead... Remember that song... I think it was called Mexican Radio...... what the hell was that song all about???? Why was the guy on a Mexican Radio??? Was he an illegal immigrant???LancsLad said:Please get back on topic, this is now the beer thread.
There are two possible responses when challenged. Fight or Flight. If you sneak across the border from a broken country to a well run country that's flight. If you were really hard working you would stay and fix the broken one. It's also easier to fight the batlle in the US since Idealistically they are not hitting back yet. if they were hitting back they would have had the INS arrest and deport all the Illegals at the protest. listening to Illegals demand treatment that the US is not obligated to provide is like finding a squater in your living room when you come home from work and he has the gaul to complain about the brand of beer you keep in your fridge. Actually the way the illegals are treated in the states is kind of like the way Jerry Seinfeld put up with Kramer The freeloading neighbor. If you want to participate in US society all you have to do is Apply and Immigrate legally. I don't think anyone has a problem with that form of entry into the country. There also has to be a willingness to participate in the society by Learning the language, Obeying the law, Paying Taxes.juanbrujo said:My people, your people are not any different. Unfortunately I couldn't find one, I think this is a business opportunity for someone. There is a massive silent majority down here that is a bit perplexed how a bunch of people here illegally have the gall to protest, not many countries would resist the opportunity to send in the law enforcement. I've heard more than one person say that they would not do business with firm that was closed yesterday, I didn't see a single sign of this brew ha ha (other than on the news) so I can't comment.Asterix said:Massive protest rallies today, OTB. juanbrujo said:When people came to America from Europe centuries ago they took the land from the Natives. Many did not just want to conquer new lands but they wanted to live in a place where there existed freedom and they could live their dreams. They were in the same situation as the illegal immigrants from today. Why were they allowed to stay then? Now they made a land that does not belong to them their own and want to keep illegal immigrants from living the same dream that their ancestors wanted to live centuries ago.
My people, your people are not any different. They fight for food and a decent treatment.
One of the best arguments for a guest worker program is it brings these employees above ground and reduces the likelihood of them being exploited by employers not following the rules.Lasttime said:Substituting Canadian (or even Ontario) for US, burlboy's comments echo the debate over the illegal construction workers, particularly in Ontario. Problem with that one is contractors obviously knew they where hiring illegals. So where was the paperwork for taxes, health coverage, and -- God forbid -- health and retirement benefits?
Seems like the underground economy was not that far underground. In fact, a cynic might believe employers were using the status if these workers to their own end$$.
I know a guy who came here after WW2 as a kid but he worked in construction all his life and he can barely speak any English at all.Lasttime said:And coming above ground might also encourage them to learn the language. During the great illegal construction worker debate a few weeks back one of the affected workers had to speak through an interpreter. And he'd been here more than a decade!!!
My first boss in Toronto was a great guy and spoke excellent English. I get this call one day from a lady that could not speak English, except to saySilentLeviathan said:I know a guy who came here after WW2 as a kid but he worked in construction all his life and he can barely speak any English at all.
