Michael Moore says he's been served with subpoena

John Byrne
Published: Friday July 27, 2007

Filmmaker Michael Moore revealed on Thursday's "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno that the Bush Administration had served him with a subpoena regarding his recent trip to Cuba made as part of his new film, Sicko.

Moore told the audience that he was notified of the subpoena backstage.

"I haven't even told my own family yet," Moore remarked. "I was just informed when I was back there with Jay that the Bush administration has now issued a subpoena for me."

Moore declared that the subpoena was unwarranted, saying, "this was a work of journalism."

"I was there to help them and now I’m going to face this further harassment from the Bush people," Moore said, according to a transcript. “Aren’t they busy with something else?"

The Oscar-winning filmmaker filmed his trip to the US base at Guantanamo Bay, where he pleaded with military officials to let three 9/11 rescue workers enjoy the benefits of healthcare extended to detainees.

"I heard the al-Qaeda terrorists we have in the camps there, detained, are receiving free dental, medical, eye care, the whole deal, and our own [9/11] rescue workers can't get that in New York City," Moore said.

The workers later received care and heavily discounted prescriptions at Cuban hospitals.

United Press International reported Thursday that the film's distributor, the Weinstein Company, will donate 11 percent of Sicko's box office sales August 11 to "help these workers and the other workers who need help."

Welcome back Woody and I see your ego tov is back too.

BTW the US still has laws prohibiting visits to Cuba...........Fair? Maybe no but fact. If convicted of this Mikey more should be sentenced to a full public disclosure of his assets and investments. I believe that would settle him down.

If Mikey was there to help, I wonder how much he donated to help the workers.

Jeeeeshh, give it a rest, The supreme superpower on this planet has been unable to capture Osama Bn Laden for almost 6 years, after he killed 3000 of its citizens and destroyed a landmark in its commercial center, not to mention attacked its military head quarters.
So now they are going after someone who made a movie. Talk about dumb and insensitive to the real problems.

Lol, i thought you were serious about the bigger threat remark.

Yeah, I guess Bush has to get his jollies somehow. Can't find crazy mass-murderer, so lets go after fat, biased, film-maker.

totally... i believe he has a radar signature.

To be fair though, MM is super-biased. I mean, I count myself as a 'bleeding heart liberal' but I totally think his depiction of the Canadian healthcare system was SUCH bullshit.

Amen to that....and remember that what ever his plan is for the USA...he would never have to live with it....he has enough money to get the best private care there is...

If he has died, it would have been from kidney failure.

Either way he is dead..and you could argue that the fact we chased him in to the mountains has contributed to his demise..either way I don't care.

The US has a ban Americans traveling to Cuba for tourism. Its legal for Americans to travel to Cuba for journalism, athletic events, and fact finding reasons. Moore did nothing wrong. Bush just has a hardon for him.

Don't drag this old tired horse out again. The rich has as much right as anybody to argue for universal health care. The rich will always be able to get better <insert noun> than the poor.

I believe in universal health care, but I go to the Mayo clinic to get fixed up, when I need it. Why would i not want everybody to have access to decent health care, just because I chose to spend the money at the Mayo clinic.

if people in the USA would understand the consequences of national healthcare, they would reject it.

Not sure why we are willing to give this to the goverment to run anyway?
So far i am not to impressed with any goverment run program..IRS?..INS?..Social Security?.homeland defense?....

Even most European countries have realized that a goverment only run program is unsustainable. Why do you think England has a two tier system now and France is considering one?

Bush and every other neo-con out there. This just underscores how much they fear his influence. If they really want to marginalize him, neo-cons should stop paying him any attention.

Liberals should to the same with Ann Coulter.

There is no proof he is alive..here is my two cents..if he would be alive don't you think he would have shown up on CNN and brag about it?
The last video was a montage of old clips.....IMHO I think he is dead.

You are only impressed with the military, we know that.

Almost every country with a universal health care system have a two tier system, as the US woiuld have. Canada is unique in prohibiting private health care services and even private health care insurance. That makes no sense whatsoever, but it is inconceivable that the US would copy that aspect.

As I pointed out before, there is no inconsistency between having a universal health coverage and the rich having access to premium services.
