Why did they not charge the perp for uttering a threat. The fact is, the cops were probably so useless in protecting this guys property he had to take matters into his own hands. Now the cops feel all embarrassed that they have to charge the poor mofo who's property they filed to protect in the first place. What a bunch of losers
"the perp?" LOL. You use language from 90's cop TV shows; you must know a lot about policing and jurisprudence in general.

I love your desperate charge to make the cops the bad guys. Look at your post and see how semantically void it is: "probably so useless", and "feel all embarassed" blah blah. Realistically, there's no "douchebag cop behaviour" here. They arrested a guy for assaulting a man (and chasing him in his car LOL). Now he will have his day in court, where he will get the opportunity to clear his name and have his noble actions entered into the public record.

Do you want the police to arrest and lay charges based on what they see at the scene, or would you prefer that they administer rough street justice to "the perp?" (LOL "the perp" I can't believe you actually said that)

Did you even read the story or just the headline?

If a robber came into my house and threatened to kill me unless I gave him the family jewels of course I will defend myself. But, the law states that you cannot simply shoot him down just because he threatened you. In cases of self defense, if an assailant comes at you with only bare knuckles and you bring a knife or gun to the fight then you may be charged.
At 5'2 and 125lbs, I'm bringing a gun to a bare knuckle fight; I'll deal with the fallout...

It's funny because it's true. This dude's been a very successful troll, using anti-cop stuff as bait, for years.
Funny you say that...yet pretty much every incident I bring to light (and it's not always me) tends to have a link to a major newspaper. So clearly it is not just me concerned with this stuff. But hey, someone has to be concerned with civil rights and freedom so all you apathetic people can also be free. Just remember "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"

Did you read what I wrote? I said if the assailant comes at you with only bare knuckles and you bring a knife or gun to the fight.

BTW, your logic would allow me to gun down a thief just in case they have something in their pocket.

The thing is, a normal person are not trained under this kind of situation. When you see some guy trying to steal your car, your instinct would be getting whatever weapon you can find to deter the thief.

There is no way a sane person will confront the thief with his bare knuckle, since you don't know what they will pull out from their pocket.

Civil rights and freedom has nothing to do with breaking the law and judging people without getting all the facts in place. The former for the restauranteur and the latter for you.

Thieves don't come at you, but they will have weapon just in case you approach them. If you see one trying to steal your car, you are definitely NOT going to confront him with your bare knuckles--EVER!

Thief: Damn Mercedes! It's so hard to break into!
dannibbler: Hey! What are you doing with my S550?!
Thief: Fuckoff!
dannibbler: Do you have any weapons on you? If not, I am going to confront you with my bare knuckles!
Thief sees dannibbler's giant knuckles: No, I don't have any weapons. I don't want to get hurt. Bye!

Masala and a broom are hardly weapon. No one ever brings masala or a broom to fight a war, or rob a bank, or take someone hostage. "Don't move any closer, or this guy get masala in the eyes!"

It's really a visible minority thing.

Throw some masala in your eyes and see how you feel, then get back to us with a review. Unfotunately in the eyes of the law, abroom can be a weapon.

Do I think this case will go far? No, especially after the recent similar case..

The guy owns a restaurant, which obviously has a kitchen with many tools that could be used as a weapon. The fact that he confronted the thief with masala and a broom, instead of a meat cleaver and a pot of hot grease shows that his intention was just to deter the thief from stealing his belonging. Did the thief gets what he deserve--masala to the face? Yes!

In the eye of the law, anything could be a weapon. Even a peanut could be a weapon. However, we need to take things into considerations. The law serve a purpose, and that purpose is ultimately justice. If the law is outdated, and is no longer serving its purpose, then it need to be amended to what is just, so that it would prevent innocent people from being charged, and to stabilize the capital system.

Thousand: Hey! What are you doing with blackrock13's CLS?
Thief: Fuckoff!
Thousand: I am just about to go. Oh, there is my bus! Bye!
Thief: Yeah run you little bitch. It's my CLS now!

Subtext here seems to be that a lot of cops are douchebags...... way to lump them all in the same category.

I had a cop give me a ticket for $100 instead of a charge that would have changed my life. And he didn't have to do that. Nor did I beg him to.

Another one knocked down my speeding ticket to 10 iver the limit.

That's the extent of my cop interactions.

100% nice guys but I know it is a small sample size.

Cops are just doing their jobs. They are like any other professions, there will be good ones, and occasionally there will be some bad ones.

Exactly. Anytime you have a human interaction you run the risk of meeting a dickhead but that guy would have been a dickhead no matter what his occupation was.

The issue I have is more about the outdated law regarding one's right in protecting their own properties. It's an important one, because as our society grow, social gap will widen, and stand of living will drop as being predicted by the Bank of Canada. There may not be enough police resources to maintain the same level of service that our country is getting, which is already not enough. There has to be some law being updated, so that the capital system will be preserve and continue to work.
