Asqa Parvez, the 16-year-old allegedly strangled by her father, has died of her injuries.

A man telephoned Peel Regional Police at 7:55 a.m. yesterday claiming he had killed his daughter.

When police arrived at the posh Longhorn Trail home, where about a dozen people spanning three generations live, Aqsa was barely alive.

She was transported to Sick Kids hospital, where she later died.

Aqsa's father, Muhammad Parvez, 57, has been charged with murder. He made a brief court appearance this morning and was remanded in custody pending another court appearance Wednesday.

The teen's brother - Waqas Parvez, 26 - has been charged with obstructing justice.

I hear that they like to get their hate on against homosexuality, premarital sex, abortion, adult industry and a whole host of other issues.

People kill in the name of Christ (crusades, protestants vs catholics, ). People kill in the name of Moses. People kill in the name of religion. In all cases it is a struggle for power justified by their god commanding them to do what is right.

James T Kirk finds it incredible that he killed his daughter over a religious symbol. I find it incredible to kill over anything. Is there ever a valid reason to kill another. What reason would you not find incredible to not kill your own flesh and blood?

The plain a simple fact of the matter is you have a parent that is trying to exercise to much control over their daughter. He didn't like the way his daughter embracing a culture that was not his own and he killed her. He will not get off light. He will serve his time like anyone else who has committed a crime like this and for the rest of us life will go on.

Here is another reason public funding of religious schools isn't a good idea. The education system should be secular - I'm with Dalton on this. The legal system should be secular too. People should adapt to Canadian culture. Maybe in Afganistan this kind of "honour killing" might be acceptable to some people, but not here. If Sharia courts had been set up in Ontario...

Kirk you are misrepresenting (or perhaps it went right over your head) Buff's point. His point is that killing the daughter over a piece of cloth is the act of a lunatic, not the belief of a religion. The mainstream followers of the religion in question are as shocked as you or anyone else. Such extreme acts are not exclusive to islamic fundamentalists. Christian fundamentalists make equally idiotic errors. And if you think the father will get 6 months for this grotesque act, you are as deluded as the perpetrator.
