I've driven down several times. Your best route is through Erie and Pittsburgh and south from there. CAA can give you a Triptick.
I don't like driving on dark American highways in areas I don't know very well so I pullover before sunset and in the summer, if I leave before 7:00 am I can almost get to Charlotte. This time of year you could stop somewhere along highway 77 which should have lots of places to pull over for the night. From there you may have only 6 more hours of driving the next day.

If you're golfing I'd say to stay in North Myrtle. It's closer to more courses and there's less traffic than in the downtown beach area. The downtown is busier and more touristy, but that may be what you want. The restaurants in North Myrtle are better, which is also where the better strip clubs (Crazy Horse and Thee Doll House) are. I'd recommend getting an efficiency unit so you can make your own breakfasts and any other meals you like so you don't have to eat restaurant food for 2 weeks. There's lots of supermarkets. My favourite restaurant is Umberto's (Italian, with big portions of good food in a boisterous atmosphere) at Barefoot Landing where they have a boardwalk along the intracoastal with wall to wall novelty stores and restaurants.

There's also a good outlet mall along highway 501 if you need to any shopping for yourself or to bring back gifts. Again, if you're a golfer, you'll love going into Martin's to shop for equipment and clothes. Great selection and some great prices, especially with the loonie doing so well. Make sure you check out prices here first though, just so you can properly compare. They've got way better stuff than Golftown.

I love Myrtle. It's a hoot.

Great Place

I vacationed there in November. Stayed at " The Palace" on Ocean Blvd., paid 200.00 US for a 1 BR condo for a Mon-Sat. stay. You gotta love competition as it keeps prices low on the accomodation front. You can easily find any type place in any price range. Check the daily newspaper for golf coupons at area courses.

Myrtle Beach

When you hit Ohio going down US 77 plan your trip so you aren;t going throught the mountains at nite during the winter. During the day no problem. At night you could get snow and worse freezing rain or just be riding on ice. I caution to plan it so you go thru the mtns of WVa during day. Other than that no problem.

If golfing definitely stay N. myrtle. There was a Radisson on the beach there that also had 2 bedroom condos and golf courses all over.

When I go down to Myrtle, I usually use mbgolf.com for their services. We usually end up staying at River Oaks condos which has full kitchens, washer/dryer and 2-bedroom suites with double beds. For 4nts, 4 rnds of golf, I'm paying $280.USD. There is an optional free 5th round of golf but each player is responsible for the cart fee of $15.pp. I'll be there from March 24-29. The Canadian agencies that setup similar packages are a rip off! For the same deal and condo bookings, one Canadian company wanted to sell the package to us for $699.CDN (not inc. transportation!). Golf Vacations I think it was... anywho, make the bookings yourself with a reputable Myrtle Beach agency if you haven't done so already.

And if you hear someone screaming FORE in your direction, it's probably my group! Hahaha, just kidding.

Do you like Oysters?

If so, be sure to visit a place called Rockeller's on the strip in North Myrtle Beach.

During happy hour they are 2.50 a dozen.

And they have some fine beers on tap. Getting fine beer in the states takes some effort LOL
