Thanks again for the comments (and the critics).

thanks!
And I'll try to dig into behavior and interview techniques...

Thanks again. I do share your opinion on technical skills. I guess for the appearance I'd need feedback from the interviews but it's always "excellent"... how can you evolve without critics?...

No worries, I do make the difference between hobbies and jobs.
Now as regard to my experience in mech engeneering, you should not overestimate the reality of things. We were only two to handle the project and most of the time the subcontractors will do most of the work. You have your idea and your job is to make sure that the contractors will understand it.
I am concerned that you do not judge this experience as credible, as you are probably not aware of the industrial production environment.
And no, the company is not looking for you even if you achieve successes. It's also a big problem in France: management. My experience there led me to design mechanical tools as well, which have been patented, but then again it did not grant me any particular position in the company; and you know what: that's why I left.

No matter the country, people are the same. When they don't want to know they don't ask; and I thought I could bump into risk-takers, at last, but once again you hit barriers of fear and narrow-mindedness.

I'll keep going.
All that discussion has already allowed me to rethink my resume; it's going to make a lot of drinks if I find a job thanks to that :D

Go to Asia. Seriously! They need more mechanical engineers than the rest of the world combined. What they lack overthere is people who can see the big picture, ie different skill sets, which you claim to have. There is too many drones there. The pay may be just as good and the women are cheap.

One option to consider is a large multi-national. I work for a large software company and many of the positions we hire have little location dependence.

My 2 cents on your experience - at some point you'll have to pick something you want to become an expert in - the cliche of jack of all trade master of none is a cliche for a reason. If you move from profession to profession it is difficult to build depth in any one.

Another poster said do what you love and I'd echo this - if you're good at something you enjoy it and if you're happy you do good work.

Good luck.

Agreed, and thanks.

But it's a tough question...

I completely agree with the concept of jack of all trade. I know at some point I will have to specialize; maybe with time I'll learn to know my tastes, and myself.

Basically I'm French and have a temp working Visa. All the interviews I do go very well but I never get the job - and I never hear negative feedback from the placement agencies...

Now it really seems like you're considered to be good at nothing if you are interested in everything! My carriers include events planning, video editing, mechanical engineering, assistant methods and cost analyst, Excel programmer, computer technician...
I thought that all these skills, added to my "bilingualism", would help me to find a job but it doesn't unfortunately.

Thanks!
From what I've read of your skills it seems that that what you're going after are what we in the trades would call "office faggot" positions. As a fellow immigrant to Canada, who came here at a very young age when there was no social safety net, I had to work my way from the ground up. No one is going to give you a job in ANY of the fields you've requested. You have to earn it on the shop floor or the construction site.

However if you do have a degree in mechanical engineering, there are many professions that are begging for talent; tool and dye, millwright, applied robotics, plumbing, boilermakers and so on. One or more draughting certificates will help you. If you have mechanical know how, I don't believe that you cant get a job in any one of these fields.

Most of all you'll need to get your hands dirty. I started out shovelling concrete, you'll have to do the same mon ami.

tool and die is almost dead in North America. The amount of tool and die work that has gone to Asia is staggering.

Anywhere except the suburbs
Have you tried the Federal Government? They won't even hire janitors unless they're bilingual, not that you want to be a janitor. My point is that you can get a good job there because you're bilingual, but since there are so few Francophones here in Toronto the fact that you speak European French won't make the slightest difference because you'll be doing everything in English anyway. The fact that you're not a citizen might be a problem though.

Ok assuming you are French and want to stay in Canada........Head to the nearest immigration office and profess yu are a CHRISTIAN and you fear reprisals if you return to France.

Islam has become the fashionable word for religion and you as a Christian is no longer welcome.
