Any of the GPS units by Garmin; by far the best out there, IMO. A little more expensive than the other brands out there but you wont regret it in the end.

Check Costco ( www.costco.ca) online, great prices and even better return policy.

I recently bought the Garmin Nuvi 650 and love it. Didn't need the bluetooth so the 650 is otherwise loaded and has an awesome bright, wide screen.
yep..................works for me too

One thing I would add, is make sure you have buttons besides touch screen, I have had issues with touch screen when cold, hot, or for no particular reason I can decipher. I think they are great however. I bought a Magellan, as a friend of mine suggested it is made by same company that airlines use for navigation equipment.

Yup, had a few units, just got a Garmin Nuvi760 = it really rocks - complete with Bluetooth and if your phone is compatible - SMS
Little costly but far better than any other units I have tried.

i am one of the few that has a good sence of direction.. don't need a gps. if i need directions i will map quest it on line. i thought these units are usefull to those on the road very often . it seems that everyone now has to have one and they need it to get to the grocery store. i guess some are just stupid.

GPS have restaurants, golf courses, attractions, etc. Mapquest (or even better Google maps) is fantastic, but when you are on the road and don't have access to the internet a sense of direction helps but can cause a waste of time, gas and frustration when you want to find a certain address, restaurant or restaurant type. I have used GPS all across North America and Europe and have found them to be extremely useful. As well, reading paper directions when driving can be very dangerous. I don't know anyone who has a GPS that uses it to get to the grocery store.... perhaps an exaggeration...or just a stupid comment! :p

They are also incredible for marking your favourite fishing spots in the middle of a huge lake ... again a sense of direction is not helpful, as there are no reference points when you can't see the shoreline. Or being in a snow squall when visibility is near 0 and the GPS is the only thing that can give you directions...

I have a Nexstar unit from Canadian Tire. It hasn't failed me yet. $269 and it has gotten me to Florida and back twice, Minnesota and back as well as to 3 different tracks for NASCAR races without fail. It has found me gas stations in out of the way places and restaurants along the way when you have a particular restaurant in mind it helps you find the one you want. I had a craving for Shilli's Boneless wings on the way home from Detroit.... not problems.. found me one 5 min from the border so we ate dinner and ran on home.

The only issue I had was on returning home from Michigan once it went to the blue screen of death and stated that it had failed to find a missing .dll file ( I blame Microsoft for that one lol) but on reboot it worked again just fine.

I just got a new Blackberry 8800, and I am quite impressed with the built in GPS. It is simple and not too many bells and whistles. You can also use google maps on it as well.

i was suprised at the few people that i know and they use them to go to places that you really don't need to use it for.. as for someone who travels .it would be a great tool... i just have no need for one.. but things might change , ya never know...
