There is a glut of oil. The oil producing countries are intentionally holding back supply to support prices. The long term environmental cost of burning fossil furls will far outweigh the short term gains. this s just pandering to oi company donors. Many more high paying jobs could be created in developing green technologies.
One of the reasons there's a glut is that wind/solar are so much cheaper and there's more of a move to switch to them.

I am not sure that the glut is due to the substitution of alternative fuels. I think it is more likely due to shale and fracking.

The glut has more to do with Saudi Arabia and yes, shale. But new generation is mostly renewable, most third world countries are now investing in wind/solar over gas/coal generation. That's put a bit more downward pressure on as well.

The Saudis have actually been curtailing production to support prices. They know that as prices rise more shale and fracking becomes economic. At present alternatives like wind/solar are not material but they are growing and China will dominate the technology. Huge lost opportunity which the US will pay for doen the road in lost jobs etc. The GOP oil master are licking their chops. What with the tax reductions etc. the hundreds of millions they have spent to get GOP congressmen/women and Trump elected has pid off big time.

Until they have electric airplanes, cargo vessels, and laws allowing people to go offgrid( yup it's actually illegal in many places) fossils are here to stay.

No way do I give up gas for electric on my heating. And I may be expanding for my oven.

It will slowly add in some areas where it makes sense.

But until those new batteries come online ive heard about on mass one needs only look at last week to know energy needs won't be changing not the habits acquired.

Do you have any idea what percentage of oil consumption is related to airplanes, cargo vessels etc.. Try and get a grip on reality.

This link substantiates the fact: https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/steo/report/global_oil.php

Interesting the China’s emissions go up, EU down by .2% and the US down by .4%. Tell me again why the Paris accord matters? Euros talk, the US does.
china industrialized very quickly and with dirty factories. They are actually decreasing the rate at which the are spewing carbon and closing outdated and dirty factories. Yes they are still huge polluter. Yhey are taking steps to curtail it. The impact will not be felt for some time. In the meantime they are investing in green technologies and will leave the US behind.

For now their emissions are up, and if you’ve ever had to breath the air in Beijing or Shanghai you’d believe it.

The last point is an opinion, one I’m not sure I share. I’m more confident Canada will be relegated to cutting down trees and strip mining dirty oil.

That’s a sign of a very inefficient network.

Germany uses more Coal than all renewables combined to generate electricity:

The taxes and subsidies represent 55% of the cost of electricity:

And it’s horrifically expensive:

3x the cost in the US, 4X the cost in Canada.

And yet Germany is out-competing USA.

The US spent $300 billion on natural disasters last year.
That should be added into their budget.

About 15% in the USA. Add in trucks not sure.

But how much economic activity is associated with the transportation industries world wide?

A far greater percentage. Now add in the cost of replacing upgrading every vehicle not just in western nations but world wide. And the cost of the electric infrastructure to run it.

Still think I'm off base?
