Auston Matthews won the Calder Memorial Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year after the 2016-17 season. He was the first Maple Leaf to win the award since the Original Six.

b) The second was the first defenseman to win the award. He played in more than half of the Leafs' games each regular season for five consecutive seasons, but his name appears on the Stanley Cup only once, because he was assigned to Rochester for the AHL playoffs in two of the Leafs' Cup winning seasons.
c) The third played for Toronto in both the NHL and the WHA. He had two separate stints as a Maple Leaf, and played for the Philadelphia Flyers in between them.
