this season has to be the most fucked up season when it comes to weird officiating calls/Non calls
seems atleast 1 call per week is being scrutinized by the head officiating team at NFL head quarters
On this I have to disagree with. This happens every season. I remember Mike Periera used to review controversial calls on a weekly basis on TA on NFL Network for several years. Now its done by Dean Blandino on TA.

As a Cowboys fan, I thought the pass interference call wasn`t good...but still could not believe they picked up the flag......hate to be that official when they get call from league office. I was struck by the fact that they break up referee crews in play offs. It seems these guys work as a team all year and know how each other works.....should stay as team in playoffs
Dez Bryant came onto the field without a helmet to argue that call, why in the HELL wasn't that called! The refs also didn't call a lot holding on Dallas offensive line, still the Lions had their chance and just couldn't get it done.

Holding could be called on almost every play in the NFL. Refs probably didn't call a lot of holding on Detroit line too.

Bleak weekend for yours truly, my Steelers go out. And the Dallas Cowgirls get a win in the cheesiest manner. Didn't know pass interference was a discretionary penalty.

I don't hate the Baltimore Ravens, the are a clutch smashmouth lunch bucket team. Not a bunch of screaming little bitches like the Cowgirls. And my paisan Joe Stringer is one of the most under-rated QB's in the NFL.

This is what I heard, agree or disagree, it is just what I heard from exHead of Officiating.
The no helmet rule applies to the 22 players(O and D) on the field. At that moment Dez was just a guy on the sidelines like a coach and coaches run out on the field all the time, but yes the referee could have thrown the flag.

Actually, it doesnt matter how minimal the contact was. If a defender has not got his head turned and thus not playing the ball and the receiver makes an effort through the defender to catch the ball then that is almost always PI. It is pretty much automatic. So I think it was a bad non-call.

That being said I think it is too easy to say one call (or in this case non-call) determined the outcome of the game. There were plenty of other plays that Detroit could point to in the game and say they could have done a better job on their own part to help win the ball game. Detroit had a 3rd and short in the redzone in the 3rd Q and STafford threw a pass to Golden Tate who had a step on Scandrick. With all the room in the middle of the field on that playe Tate if he had broken that thing off with an angle on the route then he would have given Stafford a nice place to throw the football. Maybe DET gets 7 there instead of having to settle for 3. How about the Lions defense with some sloppy tackling in that 2nd half as well. Levy had a chance to tackle Bryant and force a punt on a 3rd down play. Instead it goes for a big play and the drive culminated in a Dallas TD. On a subsequent DAL drive Seisay missed a tackle on Beasley for a big play. There were some key costly penalties on the Detroit defense as well - the Whitehead penalty for the hit on a defenseless receiver , the hold on Carey & the hold on Levy on the GW drive. ANd some special-teams miscues as well - Ross' decision to run the ball out the back of the endzone cost Detroit 15 yards of field position and then at the tail end of that drive the shanked punt by Martin. EASY to blame the officials. But one call does not a ball game make.

Have to agree there, even thought I was very happy with the result(Cowboys win, been a Cowboys fan since mid 70s) the Lions shot themselves in the foot as much as Dallas beat them.
I like the D in football so I will always admire a good - great play even if against my Cowboys, but I have no idea what Whitehead was thinking on the hit of a defenseless receiver(Beasley). He could have let up.

Despite the non-penalty fiasco, the Lions still had 4th and 1 late in the game with an opportunity to keep the drive alive. What did Jim Caldwell do? He faked a play trying to draw the Cowboys D offside. And when that ploy failed, he wimped and punted, a punt which was shanked by the punter for only a 10-yard gain.

With 2:55 left in the third quarter, the Cowboys faced fourth-and-goal from the 1. Trailing 20-7, the Cowboys went for it and scored on Murray’s rush touchdown. Again with six minutes left and the Cowboys trailing 20-17, they faced a fourth-and-6 in Lions territory. They went for it and a pass from Tony Romo to Jason Witten gained 21 yards.

The difference between playing not to lose versus playing to win? Guts. Well done Jason Garrett
Witten ran a great route against the safety to create separation on that 4th & 6 play. And on the Murray TD lets give some credit to Hanna and the blocking back (Clutts) for some good blocks on that play.

Lions were in a zone defense on that play and although on replay it looks like there is more time I think in real-time it was more of a bang bang play. Definitely a penalty but maybe not as easy for the defender to let up.

One of the worst performances ever by Peyton Manning. Arm strength? Gone. Accuracy? Gone. Mobility? Never had it but still looked like a statue. The last 5 regular season games when Denver went heavy on running with Peyton throwing interceptions right and left foreshadowed this awful performance. I think he has played his last NFL game. Greatest regular season quarterback of all time but one of the least productive playoff quarterbacks. This was the ninth one and done playoff of his career. Ouch.
Yeah the arm-strength is definitely gone. The accuracy issues (mostly on the deeper throws) is pretty much a function of the arm-strength factor. 18 was having to throw the ball early in order to compensate for the arm-strength deficiency. Full marks to that Colts secondary though - they did a great job with their coverage all game long and it is not like the Colts got a whole lot of pressure on Manning. The pass-protection was adequate. And the defense tackled well too. Can't recall too many missed tackles by the Colts defense in this game. Football games come down to turnovers but also explosive plays and the Broncos just weren't able to generate enough explosive splash plays.

Gotta give some props to Pep Hamilton too for his protection plan. Running the ball (the attempts as much as the production) served to regulate the Broncos pass-rush. The short passes and the screens also allowed Luck to get the ball out quick before the rush got to him. And Pep had a great game-plan to block Von Miller. They double-teamed him, they chipped him and on the few instances where Joe Reitz had him one-on-one he blocked him well. I really did not expect Luck to be protected this well against that Broncos front in Denver. This is back to back weeks now where the Colts O-line has performed extremely well. Granted the Bengals aren't a great pass-rushing outfit but Reitz had a great game last week too considering he had a tough assignment blocking Carlos Dunlap. Considering the tough assignments they had Anthony Costanzo and Joe Reitz were the stars of the game for the Colts.

On the other side of the coin.

Jim Tomsula was promoted to HC by the 49ers.
Jack Del Rio was hired in Oakland.
Rex Ryan in Buffalo.
Todd Bowles hired by NY Jets.

Man the Bills continue to dig their grave with boneheaded personnel moves. Rex is a horrible coach because he's an offense killer. The Bills have a gem in Watkins, his valued just took a hit.

5 Years....27.5 Million!!!
Are you fucking kidding me!!?????
5 fucking years!
history should have proved to the Jills...he's good for 3 years tops!
Then he starts losing the players confidence..and gets pissy with the media and its all down hill from there for the last 2 years

He will get them to the playoffs in his 1st year..maybe 2nd too but after that ....they will implode and that'll be it

A little shocked at Fox leaving but I guess they gotta blame someone....
Lebeau leaving the Steelers ...now that was a major shock for me

Not that I'm endorsing or criticizing him, but to say "history has proved" with a sample size of one is a laughable premise.

Joel Quenneville coached 11 years with the Blues and Avalanche. Got to the 3rd round once. History has proved he can never coach a cup winner.

Fox left because he wanted Manning dumped for next season, and Elway thinks Manning's still a football god. Elway held the higher ground, so Fox bailed.

Fox was aware of Manning injury which hampered his long ball throws...so question begs did the offense adjust or did Manning try to rekindle the Manning of old and try to do the impossible.
he did and failed..
Where was the adjustment by the O/C..to minimize those long balls
why didn't the receivers adjust routes to help Manning
I know Manning has a bit of an ego ...on the field but..
Maybe Fox realized that the Leopard wasn't gonna change his spots and decided I'll go out the door voluntarily before I get kicked out
