I would not be surprised if O'Connell takes over as QB sometime this year. Jimmy G has a history of injuries or if the Raiders struggle, they might give O'Connell a chance.

O'Connell went to Purdue and has similar traits to another B1G QB, that went in the later rds of the draft a long time ago. Tall & kind of lanky with a good arm, that's very accurate with high passing I.Q., but not athletic. I'm not saying he's another Tom Brady, just they are similar types of QB's. Actually O'Connell is more advanced in the passing game at this stage of his career, because of the offense he ran at Purdue.

Lol, tell us what you really think. This is probably his last chance to be a starter in the league, I like Jimmy G. so I am going to wish him well. Jimmy and the Raiders are going to need it in the AFC West, even the Broncos will be better.

The 49ers traded a bunch of draft picks to select Trey Lance of North Dakota State with the 3rd pick in the 2021 draft. He entered 2022 as the projected starter but suffered a broken ankle in Week 2 and was out the rest of the season. "Mr. Irrelevant" Brock Purdy took over and excelled until he got hurt in the NFC Championship game against the Eagles. Entering 2023, Purdy was the starter if healthy and he is. So battle in Frisco was for the back up QB. A former No.3 pick Sam Darnold has won the QB2 position leaving Trey Lance in a limbo. A 23 year old 6' 4" dual threat QB should find a home somewhere. We shall see.

Speaking of North Dakota State, Carson Wentz from that college selected No. 2 overall by the Eagles in the 2016 draft is out of the league at 30 years after stops in Indianapolis and DC. His cause was not helped by his 32.8 QBR rating (30th of 31 QBs). But at least he has made $128 million so far. Not bad.

Trey Lance never really got a chance because of injuries. He will be okay somewhere.

Wentz also won a Super Bowl.
Got/forced out with a ring and lots of $$$.
Wouldn't be surprised if he gets into coaching somewhere.

The real story is, considering how much SF gave up to get him, how much will they get back? A pittance?

I heard speculation is that maybe they'll get back a 5th rounder.

Hopefully Trey can go somewhere where he can learn and develop, like Jordan Love did with the Packers. Teams like the Vikings, Saints, Cardinals and maybe the Seahawks could be spots for Trey.

The Colts rookie QB Anthony Richardson completed just 6 of 17 passes for 76 yards against the Eagles. Will he ever improve?

Kenny Pickett and the Steelers are flying under the radar. They might make noise in the AFC North regardless Joe Burrow of the Bengals is healthy or not.

The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to trade for quarterback Joshua Dobbs in a deal with the Cleveland Browns, the teams announced Thursday. Arizona is entering the season with quarterback Kyler Murray still recovering from a knee injury. Dobbs eventually could push Colt McCoy, 36, for the starting job in Murray's absence. The addition of Dobbs likely means rookie Clayton Tune will be the third-string quarterback heading into the season. The Cardinals are going to stink this year.

In Cleveland, rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson now moves into the No. 2 job behind Watson. The fifth-round pick out of UCLA has impressed in training camp. "He's making great strides," Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Thursday. "We're excited about his future."

Give Richardson a break. He is a rookie and has played just 2 exhibition games.
Most rookie QB's struggle especially on a bad team.

Richardson is receiving top notch coaching. And still continues to throw poorly just as he did the few times he threw in college. That was the concern during the draft and still is.
The Panthers Bryce Young, on the other hand, was an elite QB in high pressure situations at Alabama.
That is the difference.
