They are really pushing hard. RIM sponsored the valet parking at last night's Board of Trade annual dinner, and they left snazzy thermal cups and a $5 Starbucks card in every car. I have to say that I was impressed. I guess my loyalty can be bought.

Their staggered disclosure about apps and content seems to be working. The buzz is building and the stock price is climbing (rampant speculation, I'm sure).

I'm still skeptical of their apps. I haven't been impressed by their announcements about content. Contrary to Jessica's priorities, they are still trying to capture the "toys" market in the public eye.

I think their biggest problem will be inertia. I didn't have a big investment in content with my BB even though I was on it for 10+ years. After only 4 months on iphone, I've got dozens of movies, books (ok, Kindle, so transferrable if there's a Kindle app for BB) and a smattering of other apps. I'm not really going to want to move back unless there's a tangible upside.

Having said that, I really miss having a keyboard and I hate the iOS email management protocol. So, I'm 51% certain that I will pick up a BB10 when the keyboard model comes out as a second phone/work phone.

Soooooo... Has anyone got a BB 10? If so, what was your last phone or what did you switch from?

And if you have on, what do you like/don't like about it?

Blackberry stocks jumped 15% yesterday after good forecasts by analysts.. I hear the demand for the new phone in Canada and countries it has been released is high... high online orders. :) I swear America is just hoping they go under... Almost all the articles I've been reading even before the phone was released has been negative

Oo little, too late.

I owned blackberrys for 4 yrs, they were constantly dropping calls, would freeze in the middle of a conversation and had no apps. The breaking point came where I lost a tender on a bid because my blackberry locked up. It cost the company I work for $800,000 in a lost contract. At that point I decided that if a company couldn't even make a phone that worked at its most basic then they had no business in getting support from me.

I moved to an iPhone the next day and have never had a problem with it.

Sorry RIM, you shit the bed. You couldn't even make a phone that worked properly and it cost my company a lost contract. You don't get a second chance after that kind of fuck up.

Just being practical, in the meantime the company also issued me a galaxy so that there's never an excuse to miss out on a contract like the one RIM cost us.

Besides, blackberry is for girls.

The problem is that their app market is littered with junk apps at premium prices. Yes you can research which ones are good but in the apple and android markets your can trust that the top rated apps are good.

They need to clean that up and make it easy to find the good apps.

I was a lifetime BB supporter, I would push anyone I talked to to get a BB. I was so excited was they announced the Playbook I bought one at launch. Then the hit hit the fan, email issues, OS issues, app issues etc. I sold it for half price 6 months later after BB dropped the price on their stock. Since then I swore off BB products.

Half the people I know with Iphones have broken screens. Dunno what it is, but their screens are quite frail.

What I'm debating right now is to get a new BB Z10 (full touch screen) or wait till the Q10 comes out in a few months with the physical keyboard. (I currently have BB Bold)

I like the physical key board, but I also like what a bigger screen has to offer in terms of viewing screen size.

What to do, what to do.

Shops have denied claims by BlackBerry boss Thorsten Heins that BB 10 sold out

BTW: 'Tools not Toys' is the moronic tunnel vision design strategy that got BB in trouble in the first place. BB 10 is trying to catch up on professional capabilities long available on other handsets. The variety of APPS available (~ 700,000+ on both Apple & Android platforms) is not intended to be mounted in one handset (Duh), it gives users (professional & recreational alike) an unprecedented flexibility to design your handset to meet your job/personal requirements. These include mechanical/electrical engineering formulas, professional travel, sales aids, etc, etc, etc .. not available on the Blackberry platform. So think twice before waving a banner that reinforces how restrictive the technology is. :thumb:

..okay......... this is the first crack showing up between Heins statements and the reality of this new release......

One store in Leeds and one in Manchester said they had handsets available for immediate purchase and collection, with one saying they had “loads left”.
Stores in London contacted by the Daily Telegraph said they had “plenty left”.
My Heins made the comments in an interview with the Associated Press in the US, where the phones are due to be released in mid-March.
The comments will lead to accusations that Mr Heins is trying to talk up sales of the handsets.

I did my own checks yesterday, I was not impressed with the traffic and the phone did not seem special at all. In terms of the sell out story at least in Canada, each store was allocated 5-7 z10s..... thus the bar is definately not high.

Watch out folks... something doesn't smell right.

I know there's 10 times the number of apps available for both Apple & Android platforms. However for the most part, the only apps I see people using on those devices are of the silly toy variety.

The number of apps is less important than the number of high quality apps. The obscure ones benefit from a large use base since not everybody needs a bullet drop calculator or fitness tracker or second language practice app but for those who do it is very useful, and the more users there are supporting it the better quality it will be.

Quite a lot of people benefit from the quality of social media apps and messaging clients. A phone is primarily a communications tool so high quality facebook, twitter, skype, etc are pretty important communication channels. The question is not whether these core apps exist really but how good are they.

its intentional ... apple will do anything to make you buy a new phone or upgrade or buy their protection plan.. like they witch around their charging cables that you can't use your old phone charger etc anymore

The number of apps is a direct indication of the number of quality apps and the number of software houses willing to write software for BB. There was a survey done recently of major app writing software houses and many were not planning to release BB versions until they were confident the product would survive.

Case in point: BlackBerry 10 Launches With Some Great Apps, but Mission-Criticals Are Missing - Wall Street Journal Link: http://tiny.cc/cmt3rw

To paraphrase a BB popular defense: A smartphone without apps is not a tool - it's just a phone.

- I don't know anyone who has bought a Z10.

- I did not see any line-ups yesterday at cell phone stores in the PATH

- I don't care about 70,000 apps. I only use a dozen, maybe, and one of my favourites (Kindle) is not available.

I also notice that the Z10/Q10 do not have a BB (menu) button. That's on my top three things I miss going from my Bold to Iphone (the other two being an LED indicator and, of course, a hard keyboard.)
