You're really really fucking lazy. It's called "calling or emailing your councilor". Just because you choose to stop participating in democracy AFTER the vote, doesn't mean democracy stops. Democracy doesn't have to be force fucking fed to you.. It's up to you to fucking engage it.
On the contrary Mr. Angry Pants. I did email my councilor and didn't get a response. I then called, left a message, and didn't hear back. I did this before the vote.
After the actual vote, I called back to find out why my councilor voted without soliciting feedback from constituents. Councilor didn't respond but one of the office helpers did and told me "the councilor doesn't solicit feedback from constituents for every single agenda item...".

Like this was just any agenda item. Quite the opposite in fact. An unprecedented issue. It just so happens that my councilor is one of the left-wing clan members and has always been quite vocal of not wanting to work with the mayor from day one.

So your assumptions are wrong. None of these councilors "reacted" to their constituents. They reacted to their own agendas. And judging by your manner, you seem to be ok with that. Which is fine if you're a communist or have delusions of a democratic city council.

…edit…
I have not forgotten about Chow and Layton living in subsidized housing (or, if you prefer, "Co-op housing", or whatever the current politically correct term for government housing is these days.).
Co-op housing is jointly owned by the occupants, usually by buying shares in the enterprise. Wealthy neighbourhoods in New York are full of co-ops, and they have nothing to do with 'government housing' which usually refers to housing owned, and operated by government and provided at below market rates for those unable to afford better. The building Layton and Chow were in was a co-op and not government housing by any common usage then or now. The Bain Co-Op in Riverdale is a notable example of a longstanding and successful co-op.

You may prefer more punctilious ethics than others show, but if you're going to make a public issue of it, you owe a better definition of what you consider offensive. "They lived in government housing or whatever it was called back then," sounds a lot like not really knowing what you're complain ing of, or what they did that was supposedly so unethical.

Wikipedia's article on Layton said:
Layton and Chow were also the subject of some dispute when a June 14, 1990, Toronto Star article by Tom Kerr accused them of unfairly living in a housing cooperative subsidized by the federal government, despite their high income.[36] Layton and Chow had both lived in the Hazelburn co-op since 1985, and lived together in an $800 per month three-bedroom apartment after their marriage in 1988. By 1990, their combined annual income was $120,000, and in March [before the story, my note] of that year they began voluntarily paying an additional $325 per month to offset their share of the co-op's Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation subsidy, the only members of the co-op to do so.

In response to the article, the co-op's board argued that having mixed-income tenants was crucial to the success of co-ops, and that the laws deliberately set aside apartments for those willing to pay market rates, such as Layton and Chow.[37] During the late 1980s and early 1990s they maintained approximately 30% of their units as low income units and provided the rest at what they considered market rent. In June 1990, the city's solicitor cleared the couple of any wrongdoing,[38] and later that month, Layton and Chow left the co-op and bought a house in Toronto's Chinatown together with Chow's mother, a move they said had been planned for some time.

Tory would win if Ford and Chow dropped out, that's your slogan for him?
This three time loser needs a Senate appointment.
No......what I said was that the majority of support for Ford and Chow comes under Hard support. Which means that the polling numbers don't have a lot of upward movement. There are many in the city who would NEVER vote for either Ford or Chow, so if Ford drops out all of those NEVER for chow will gravitate to Tory. There also appear to be several undecided in the NEVER Chow but haven't stated for the other 4. If he is the frontrunner to take her on they will go TORY. Finally if FORD does drop below 20% many of his supporters will switch to Tory, if only to keep Chow out.

Get it now, its what happens in a 3 way race. Support can waver that way.

And Chow was a two time loser to Tony Ianno before riding in on hubby's coattails. And she had several years of name recognition in Trinity spadina. It happens.

Okay, so you feel democracy failed because YOUR PERSONAL demands weren't met? REALLY?!

To decalre that "None of these councillors "reacted" to their constituents is beyond moronic. You really think these councilors are going to vote AGAINST the wishes of the majority of their constituents?! Yeah, that's a surefire fucking way to get re elected.. Just brilliant..

I guess they were so hell bent on their "communist agendas" that they forgot that they would be voted out in 2 years time and wouldn't actually be able to put their "communist agenda" to work... You sound like the type of guy who wears a tin foil hat to bed.

Jack and Olivia weren't actually gaming the system really. They were more taking advantage of Olivia's mom while they saved for a house but just stayed too long before they could get out without people noticing. Of course with the salaries those two at the time had they could have afforded to pay the full freight, but hey, why not hide behind the elderly lady right.

Funny how when the story broke they were out and into a bought house within a month. I guess the timing that they finally saved enough was just perfect.

eHealth scandal happened under his watch, that means he was either in on the scam or too incompetent to notice to scam. Either way he was directly or indirectly responsible.

http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2009/10/09/ehealth_scandal_dents_smithermans_mayoral_run.html

Now please show me where Robbie Ford has ever been suspected or accused of embezzling money
When you come up with anything to justify your slanderous and stupid use of 'stole' and 'embezzle' to describe what you're now calling Smitherman's possible inattention, I might have enough grasp of the bizarre way you use English to understand why you'd think 'embezzle' might apply to Ford. But as I haven't used that word, and am not aware of others using it, how could I find such a story?

But with an imagination as good as yours, you should have no trouble. When and if you do, I'll be happy to steer you right as best I can.

First off, you called me "fucking lazy", to which I corrected you by explaining what I did. So an apology is in order here.

Nevermind my personal demands not being met...how about we start with a return phone call or email? I guess I don't work for the Star so that may explain it.

And as far as these councilors getting re-elected, we'll just have to wait and see what happens don't we? That will be the ultimate answer as to if they "reacted" wisely or not.
Or maybe some of them will pull an Adam Vaughn and switch parties just to move to the next level, in typical NDP fashion.

So you don't have to spew your foul-mouthed schoolyard slogans right now Mr. Angry Pants...but I will definitely spew them at you when I prove you wrong.........again.

You are absolutely correct. So I guess she is more like Ford in that when she gets caught in something dubious in her personal life she cuts and runs too, with a nice "spin".

While the terms are wrong, to use the term "possible inattention" when it came to 1 billion on E-Health and the criminal goings on at Orge is atkin to stating Ford just "lost track" of the number of drinks he was having......

Seeing as how you have demonstrated your lack of understanding as to how our democratic system actually works, I seriously doubt you actually placed a fucking phone call in the first place...

Placing a phone call would mean that you UNDERSTOOD that your councilor had the right to strip mayor Ford of his powers, and that you were attempting to encourage them to exercise their democratic right in a fashion that you saw fit. Apparently after they voted differently you changed your tune to

The thing that you should be most concerned about is how a council decided who they did not want to work with and replaced the mayor with someone they wanted.
... Interesting.

Okay, let me put into words even you can understand.

Did the eHealth scandal happen under Smitherman's watch, yes or no??
Was Smitherman directly or indirectly responsible for this scandal, yes or no??
Has Rob Ford ever been implicated in a similar billion dollar scandal, yes or no??

Ford has tried 2 x billion dollar schemes. Fortunately, he lacked both the competence and the trust to pull off either of them. He's better at the 'steal little' stuff - misusing CH resources for his personal interests, the scandal of his contra deals with Muzik, cheating on election spending, putting friends on the city payroll at made-up jobs.

There's only so much theft and system abuse an uneducated alcoholic crack smoker who's never held a real job, can get done in a day!

Not agreeing with the decision to upgrade the LRT to a subway hardly qualifies you or anyone to refer to it as a "scheme". Not when council approved it.

Other than that.....if the money wasn't wasted, how can you compare anything with being in charge of something like E-Health and squandering 1 billion on consultants and paper shuffling with nothing to show for it. Stretching.

Smitherman would have been a disaster. His personal life too. His Partner Died of a drug overdose and now he wants to open a Medical Pot Grow-op. Still think he is cured from his stint in rehab? I don't. And neither will Ford be. Two of the same feather.

And Chow? Good follower. Bad Leader.

Exactly!

And does anyone really think if Smitherman had won the Red Star wouldve followed him around all day long to see where he was buying his coke and percocets??! Not a fucking chance, Smitherman is on their side, his private life would have been left alone

Yes. The Star has investigated and brought down governments and politicians on all sides.

The stories you were citing up thread, which paper do you think broke them?

Which paper broke the story about Chow and Layton living in coop housing?

Which paper broke the e health scandal?

Which one broke the ORANG story?

The Star has a clear and transparent, unabashed bias in their editorials and its opinion columns, but in their news reporting they go for the biggest story, objectively, without political favoritism.

http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2014/05/09/rob_ford_really_in_rehab_cbc_confirms.html

Rob Ford really in rehab, CBC confirms.

CBC was granted access to a supervising doctor at the rehab facility on condition it not reveal its location.

The public broadcaster was granted access to a supervising doctor at the rehab facility, who confirmed Ford is currently a patient in a residential treatment program for substance abuse.

According to the report, the mayor arrived at the facility on May 1 and has been an in-patient ever since. Ford did leave the facility Saturday, however, after a medical exam. He was taken to hospital and admitted for four days before returning to the treatment facility on Wednesday.

Ford continued to receive treatment while in hospital, according to the report.

The CBC says they were allowed to speak with the doctor on condition they not release the location of the facility.

The report comes after a week of speculation about whether or not Ford was actually getting treatment for alcohol and substance abuse, and amid several apparent sightings of the mayor around the GTA and southern Ontario, including at a Junction-area Tim Hortons.

Since then, Tim Hortons took the rare step to confirm, using security footage, that it was actually Doug and not Rob spotted at the coffee and donut shop.

“Mayor Rob Ford has been under medical care 24-7 from the time he arrived in Canada, from Chicago, and he’s been getting treatment,” his brother Councillor Doug Ford told the broadcaster.

Rob Ford was originally believed to have gone to Chicago on a private jet last week after announcing he would take a leave of absence, but reportedly turned back at the Midway International airport.

When asked repeatedly this week where his brother was seeking treatment, Doug Ford said he was “nowhere close to the GTA.”

Councillor Ford said he hopes media organizations and paparazzi will stop trying to spot Ford now that his stay in rehab has been confirmed. He also said he hopes people respect the privacy of his brother and other patients at the treatment facility.

With the mayor absent from city hall this week, and Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly assuming all of his roles, Doug Ford has been left answering for his brother’s actions — and his commitment to getting better.

Rob Ford’s criminal lawyer and family friend Dennis Morris has told the Star that Ford is at in-patient treatment “24-7” but neither he nor the Ford family would confirm where.

Doug Ford said Thursday the facility is treating 25 others.

The mayor told Toronto Sun columnist Joe Warmington this week by phone that there ware “two doctors here, a captain of industry and a professional athlete.” Warmington said he called the mayor on his cellphone
