I remember Peter Zezel during the 90's and the run the Leafs had in the playoffs at that time. A faceoff specialist and real character guy who always played with heart.

He's in a battle for his life now.

Apparently, Peter will be taken off life support later to-day. He is only 44 years old. Another grim reminder that even elite atheletes are only mortal. (I remember when Walter Peyton and Kirby Puckette passed in their mid-forties.) Condolences to his family and friends.

He had the same problem in 2001 but he survived. I don't know why they would take him off it at this point.

I just had the fan590 on this very second and Howard Burger said nothing about taking Peter off Life Support.

He was also a fantastic soccer player. If I remember correctly he was good enough to consider a pro career in that sport.

Again, that was rather a callous remark you made about Peter to be taken off life support later today. As there is no such news as of 2:23 PM although he continues to fight for his life.

Unless you're a friend or family member keep such non-creditable comments out of this thread.

My dad knows Peter Zezel. They were not friends but acquaintances. This is very sad to hear.

That's awful.

I remember him balooning in weight within a year of his retirement. He appeared on OTR and I didn't know if it was Zezel or Dom Deluise. With his blood disorder it makes perfect sense - unfortunately.

Peter Zezel was an average hockey player but excellent on faceoffs. One of the first faceoff specialists. One of his big claims to fame has to be scrapping with Rob Lowe on the set of "Youngblood" back in the 80's. Zezel was one of the OHL players they got to act in that movie and in one scene Lowe wacked Zezel and he floored him for it. Good on ya, Pete!

CTV News has just reported that the NHLPA announced that he has in fact passed away. RIP
