No surprises on tonight's show, imo. Simon may be getting blunter, but he is probably right, Melissa and Kinnik will be going home. I don't think they are necessarily the two worst singers, but they are probably the two most forgettable.

It is interesting to me how Heart, a group that was kind of undistinguished during its own time, has now become sort of a crucible for vocal performance on this show. Compared to previous Heart efforts--Carrie Underwood's 'Alone' last year, and Mandisa's 'Never' this year--Melissa's attempt at 'What About Love' tonight was horrible in comparison. It makes you really appreciate what a marvelous singer Ann Wilson is. So I think she's gone.

Kinnik, sorry, I like Alicia Keys, but you needed a "wow" performance, and the one you gave tonight was like watching paint dry. Kinnik just doesn't stand out, and I'm sorry, but with three other very strong black women (Paris, Lisa, Mandisa), you are the odd sister out.

Paris and Lisa are coasting now, as I thought they were both just okay, but they are already so popular, they will have no problem advancing. I thought Katherine was really good, and her looks are starting to grow on me. I think she's adorable. Did anyone else catch of glimpse of her mom and dad in the audience? Her mom looks hot, an older version of Katherine. Her dad looks like, well, like he doesn't belong in that picture, and that maybe the mailman is Katherine's real dad.

I liked Ayla's choice of song, and she is one I am starting to like too. She's got personality and has made noticeable strides week to week, so she moves on. And what can you say about Mandisa singing "I'm Every Woman"? Well, I don't know if she's every woman, but she's probably a good 2 or 3 of them. Fat jokes aside, she did a terrific job with the song.

And then there is Kellie, who is just so cute and unassuming, it's hard to imagine her going anywhere. Simon's comment about preferring Kellie to last year's winner was interesting. Carrie was a pretty young girl and could sing, but man, she was as dull as dishwater, personality-wise. I never got the sense Simon was all that crazy about her, even though he had to acknowledge her talent. He probably didn't think she had enough sex appeal or charisma to ever truly stand out and make him a ton of money.

Just like Ayla, Homonger, your reviews of each week are getting stronger and stronger.

Missed everyone up to Kinnik. She sucked big time

Now as for my girl Katherine. I love her to pieces (especially that cute face, the big guns and the juicy chocolate maker) but I am seeing glimpses of internal ugliness. Is she "working" America? During Mandisa's performance all the girls were up top cheering her on while it looks like TowTem was sitting on the couch sulking.

Ayla is getting more comfortable and better. She won't win

I was thinking the same thing about Katherine, but she did improve a bit tonight. She may be the best technical singer and I think she's cute, but she doesn't really do it for me as a performer. I think I finally figured out why - her facial expression doesn't change much. i.e. she could be more expressive, in line with what she is singing.

Katherine knows how to sing. I agree, she is best technical singer and has great control to her voice, and as such, might feel she does not have to jazz up her performances too much. As for "working" it, all I can say is, why not? There have already been jokes made about her "smoldering look", and it came out last night that she went to the same music school as Constantine. The smolder seemed to work for him, at least for awhile, and if looking sexy can get you votes, I'm all for it. As for the internal ugliness, I don't have a huge problem with it, as one of the things that does not ring true to me about this show is how happy all the contestants seem to be with each other. I don't think one should sabotage someone else or actively root against someone else, but there's no reason to be giddy either when a competitor does well.

I may be naive, but I do think Kellie truly is as unassuming and nice as she appears. That said, I do think she is also doing her best to play it up, because she knows it is working. Again, a smart move.

The judges always say it, but you have to be who you are. Simple and sweet ol' country girls always seem to do well in this competition. So why not play it up?

So anyway, here are my fearless predictions.... Kinnik and Melissa go home tonight, so the six final girls are Kellie, Katherine, Lisa, Paris, Ayla and Mandisa. I think the two last girls standing will be Katherine and Lisa. Mandisa reminds me of a bigger Kimberly Locke, the girl who finished behind Ruben and Clay in Season 2, in that she is arguably the best singer, but just doesn't fit the profile of what America wants from its AI champ. Jennifer Hudson, another big black girl from Season 3, also fits that description. So I think Mandisa gets pretty far, but not to the final 2. Ayla and Kellie advance to about the mid rounds, but ultimately go out because it becomes clearer and clearer week by week that they are not at the same level as the others. Paris is the wild card--I don't think she is as good as Katherine or Lisa, but I think she has a lot of loyal fans.

Again, I care far less about the guys on AI than the girls, but to be fair...

Gedeon and Taylor are obviously going through to the next round. I hate that song "When A Man Loves A Woman", btw. Imo, one of the most overplayed songs of the rock era, plus it has that nasty, dirty, Michael Bolton association. Taylor did a great job with that Doobie Brothers song. I didn't like Chris' song by Seether as much as his previous choices, but he's going through. I thought Ace's performance was gay, but he's advancing. Elliott's performance of that Bryan Adams song was uncharacteristically painful, but he has been solid so far, so I don't think he's going anywhere. Will Makar will be going, and can go do the job he was really suited for, namely being Peter Brady's stunt double on Nick at Nite. That means either Kevin or Bucky will be going, and I don't feel strongly one way or another about either one.

i much prefer melissa's raspy voice over ayla. as paula said, melissa is picking up momentum but it won't be enough to keep her around more than a couple more weeks.

It all comes down to song choice. Some songs are great for this type of competition, while others suck. I think the girls and guys get voted for based on #1 whether it's popular, #2 their rendition of the song, whether it's close to the original artist or not.

I didn't like Ace singing Faggot Jackson's song, but he gets voted for by little girls, so he'll be around for awhile. I like D.J. Sammy's version of Heaven, but hated the song when Bryan Adams sang it. D.J.'s version made me crank up the vol. Simon didn't like it the other night. I glanced through the article that revo attached, and the gist of it is, Kellie Pickler is working her country yokel angle big time, and is not nearly as sweet and innocent as she appears. Be that as it may, she will top out in this competition pretty soon. Although there are some weird twists and turns along the way, for the most part, the best singer(s) do win this competition.

Back to Gedeon, it may be as simple as that Ronald McDonald thing. He was just kind of a funny looking dude. Kevin gets the grandma vote, and Bucky is not a bad looking guy, so girls vote for him. Will just sucked, so even the pre-teen girls bailed on him.

Ace was weak and I think he should do a little something with his hair. It (his hair) was great in the Hollywood selection process but now its lost its pizzazz. Butterflies was sexy but this week he canned.

Lisa is not my cup of tea but others seem to love her.

I like Paris better because she is better. But not a top two imho

Katharine was simply magnificent tonight and I love the way she resembles Janis Joplin vocally when she belts out those notes. She was smoldering tonight and looked awesome. To all you Katharine haters...SUCK IT.

Bucky was ok but he's out after Kevin and Mellissa.

Mandisa fucked up. Didn't like the complete song. Saved it when she wailed. She;s good for a few more weeks.

Ah, the real competition begins! Bigger stage, bigger band, bigger pressure, and if this show was any indication, you will start to see separation of talent.

IMO, there is a meritocracy of Katharine, Chris, Lisa, Paris, and maybe Mandisa and Taylor. They are so much better than the others it isn't funny. I thought Elliott might be in that circle, but not based on tonight's performance.

Katharine and Chris were the best girl and boy tonight, respectively. Katharine has always been cute, but now that she is getting big league hair and make-up, she looks ravishing. I liked that she showed off the big guns a bit tonight, but overall I thought her dress was hideous. Chris, once again, showed he is the real shit. He is so much of a real rocker that he makes the so-called rockers from previous seasons look like a bad joke. I mean, really, Constantine vs. Chris? No contest.

I thought Lisa, Paris, and Taylor were very good. Lisa is getting cuter too. Taylor always picks the perfect song for him, and "Living for the City" was an awesome choice. Mandisa was pretty good, but she oversang it a bit, and for God's sake, wear your damn shoes. This is national TV for crying out loud!

I applaud Kevin for having fun with all this, but he has become a joke and it must end soon. I think he goes. Clay was a geek too, but he could sing.

Bucky and Melissa were solid, if unspectacular. They stick around for a few more weeks.

Ace and Kellie? All I can say is, they looked good tonight. They sucked. They probably survive, but they need to get better. Elliott was simply okay. He probably survives, but barely.

IMO, it's Katharine vs. Chris in the final.
