John Huston's last film is a delicate piece of artful melancholy that pays tribute to Ireland as much as it reminds us that life is for living, not just to sleep walk through.

His second last film, 'Prizzi's Honor' was such a success that even 'The Dead' got caught up in its hotwash and did not get the reception it deserved.

For those that love language and acting as colour on a canvas, 'The Dead' is a marvel of a film.
