Last time I voted in municipal elections was 8 to 10 years ago. I dont remember the exact ballot, can somebody explain the setup??
Do we get to vote on all councillors, or just the ones in our ward?? I'm assuming just our own ward, correct??

Councillor Maria Augimeri said Rae may be right about council having to go rogue against a Mayor Ford.

“I have yet to know that he’s read a report, (the mayor) needs to be intellectually engaged,” she said. “You need to be able to be an avid reader and promoter of the city, simple pat actions won’t do, Band-Aid solutions won’t do ... there is no quick fix (for the city).”

The York Centre councillor said it’s “appalling” that Ford is ahead in the polls.

“But we’ve elected a clown before,” Augimeri said.

Although Mayor Mel Lastman wasn’t “intellectually engaged” he still could work with council, unlike Ford, she said.

“Mel had something that this guy just doesn’t have, he understood his shortcomings,” she said.

Asked whether he’s mulling a run at the mayor’s chair, Vaughan opted for a “no comment”.

Ward 19.
vote gus cusimano in ward 9 to get rid of augimeri

its all those lunches we have been paying for
Yeah ! Fortunately since Ford has another full time job - he can write his expenses off under the CFO business plan. Of course, while we don't have to pay for those lunches we do pay half a days work while Ford completes his CFO duties. It's like a con artist's trick - a diversion of giving you $5 you dropped on the sidewalk as he picks your pocket. Ford zombies, please don't offer excuses that everyone does it.

With such useless choices I could careless who wins it but I do expect that the person elected mayor should be perform the function full time. It's Toronto - not Mayberry where the town mayor is also a runs the barbershop.

Well quite frankly I can not think of any situation where I would ask you to do any part of my thinking for me, Judging by your reply I am the only one of us that actually read your post.

And its not like The Star is anti-Ford, or leans left or anything.
On that subject, the Star went into overdrive today. Its front page has the results of an Angus Reid "online" poll that shows Ford only leading Smitherman by six points, with an Angus Reid spokesman noting that's barely outside the poll's margin of error.

On the newspaper's inside pages, there is a photo caption asking whether or not Ford's lead can last, and a story and a column both saying voters don't really pay attention until after Labour Day. (Much of that argument relies on the ridiculous comparisons with 2003 -- ridiculous, in my opinion, because there was a provincial election in October 2003 that was capturing the voters' attention prior to the November municipal elections).

I don't know -- the numbers in this poll seem wildly out of whack with other numbers I've seen (including the numbers for Ford, who has been nowhere near 42 per cent in any other poll). Furthermore, I don't trust online polling, which is done by advertising the poll on Facebook and elsewhere. It's too easy for party operatives to distort the numbers.

The Star seems determined to reassure its readers today that Smitherman can still win. But if I were George's supporters, I would wait to see a few more polls before they get over-confident.

Bottom line.... I keep hearing how he get things done for his people. Returns calls, solves problems. He has also done a great deal of work to get kids playing hockey. He could spend his whole office budget but does not.
Rob Ford might be somewhat buffoonish but he is sadly the best choice out there.

Rob Ford is a primate and will probably not make a good mayor.

That said, Smitherman would be even more disasterous.

I was hoping and praying that John Tory would run for Mayor. No such luck.

So my choice is a primate, or a complete useless tool.

Sigh......

I totally agree. Ever since Moody's went corrupt I dont trust any large institutions anymore:

And you can add polling companies to that list.
Sadly, almost everything in life is motivated by either politics or money

Stop free lunch for council: Ford

Note to city councillors, after Oct. 25 brown bag it to council meetings.

That's the message from mayoral frontrunner Rob Ford who sparked an angry speech on the council floor by Councillor Shelley Carroll Wednesday when his campaign snapped several photos of council's mid-afternoon buffet.

A Sun photographer also tried to capture the post-lunch lunch but was rebuffed by City Hall security.

"When I'm mayor that food is going," Ford vowed Wednesday. "It's like literally a gravy train … like pigs at a trough."

Ford's photo foray into the backroom buffet caught the attention of Carroll and Councillor Paula Fletcher who scolded him behind the scenes, he said.

But Carroll also took her anger out on Ford during the public meeting - accusing him of trying to derail the $7 million in staff work that went into the city's draft zoning bylaw– which council pass late Wednesday – while obsessing over a "snack" that costs council just $8,870 a year.

"He's prepared to leave you hanging and waste $7 million of professional expertise while he's out back - he's probably out there now getting a picture of the finished plate," Carroll told her fellow councillors.

Ford doubted the budget chief's figures.

"It's probably $8,000 per meeting," he said.

Every year Ford tries to eliminate the free food costs, including coffee and tea for councillors during meetings.

He says that cost is around $88,000 per year.

I have a feeling this is going to be a very interesting election. hopefully huge voter turnout.
I can't remember a time when there was so much pre election controversy
It's chicken shit stuff like the above that makes me think that Ford is an even bigger buffoon than he already is. The city of Toronto has a 9 billion dollar budget and he's worried about 8 grand for muffins and coffee?

Moron.

Any decent company provides such thnigs for its employees if they are in a long meeting, or working over lunch, or working late, or whatever.

Besides, having some food in your belly aids in productivity and people working together.

Imagine what a nightmare it would be working at Ford's print shop. He'd be the kind of boss who'd be timing your time taking a shit and telling you you had to make up the time after 5 p.m.
