One of my favourite British bands, and one of my favourite songs.
Every time I hear it I stop and listen to the lyrics which I think are just outstanding, starting with " Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say "Please share my umbrella". Bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows under my umbrella" to start the love story and then the chorus " Every morning I would see her waiting at the stop, sometimes she'd shop and she would show me what she bought. All the people stared as if we were both quite insane, someday my name and hers are going to be the same" with the music is just sublime.
Since JGD was kind enough to include Badfinger trivia, here's some about this song.
The Hollies didn't write this song, it was written by a 19 year old tunesmith who had already had some success in writing for others as well as being in several bands with his mates. Two Yardbirds songs that he wrote went on to be rock classics:
He continued to write and play in bands, and finally Graham Goulding hit the big time in 1972 and with his band mates formed 10cc.
What is the band named after?
