Hopefully women gaining the right to vote will be a step towards increasing their influence and say over their society, and thus a step towards ending some of those other problems.In 2014 or 2015. I wouldn't go so far as to say "Medieval" because if you are honest women in Europe and America faced similar restrictions well into the Victorian era. It didn't really change for women here until they got the right to vote and started electing candidates who promoted their interests.
Plainly SA has a long way to go, they're a good 150 years behind us in terms of their respect for women, I'd say.

But...they can hire a car to get to the polls. There are not too many poor Saudis.
