Perhaps that blackberry now has lower marketshare than M$ and it's share continues to fall....
So what. I don't decide what products to buy based solely on which company has greatest market share. I look at all the products then decide which one best fits my needs. Only an idiot would do otherwise.

I wonder if people who bought Betamax over VHS said the same thing...

Really in that case everyone turned out to be a moron because both are now dead standards. lol Perhaps they should have gone with laser disc at least then they'd have a cool legacy device rather then a doorstop and a pile of plastic tapes distended for landfill. I have a Z30 and to be honest with you I love it. With the volume of texts and emails I receive I could not imagine trying to navigate them on the limited screen and interface of an iPhone. The blackberry Hub is a very useful feature for people who actually do business with their mobile devices. A friend put the Amazon App store on there as well so I can download android apps too. The security of the device also benefits myself and my clients need for privacy.

Personally I love my blackberry 10 device and would not shy away from the devices especially at the current give away price point.
*hugs*

OK but wouldn't one be less of an idiot given the longer lifespan of VHS?

I have a Z10 and a Z30. They're alright but severely lacking compared to iOS and Android.

And yet, amidst the extreme pressure they are in under, their absolute number of subscribers grew according to that data, just not as fast as the total market grew.

Fair enough but what can you phone do that a Samsung with Android can't? Both those have a future, Blackberry does not.

You don't get personal preference do you? That's like saying what does a BMW do that a comparable Audi can't? They'll both get you to where you want to go, but some just like the feel or how the controls are laid out on one vs. the other.

So to answer your question, it's the keyboard on the Z30 that does things the others don't. I've used the iPhone, Nexus and Samsung and I can type way faster on the Z30 which learns words you commonly use and displays them so you can simply flick to insert. The others don't have that feature. Considering how many texts and emails I send a day from my phone, the Z30 is a hands down winner.

So why would I choose a product based solely on the future of the company? I'm not concerned about Blackberry. It's a $100 phone and if they're not around a few years from now, who cares, I'll buy something else. Until then, I'll use the phone that best fits my needs.

I have the option to buy a new Z10 fo $100 or a new Z30 for $250. I am not brand loyal, have had a Samsung S2 for a few years now.

Is there a huge difference between the Z10 and Z30? I already have a work phone, so my use is primarily light web browsing and occasional texting.

Thanks.

The Z10 has a 4.2" screen. The Z30 is 5". They have the same resolution so the PPI is higher on the Z10. Battery life is horrible on Z10. Z30 is really good. The Z30 has a AMOLED display. The Z10 does not. So colours are more saturated, blacks are reproduced perfectly as each pixel is powered down when displaying black. The Z30 has more ram, better processor but you won't notice the difference. BB 10 runs smooth on both. Z30 has more microphones, better antenna and dual speakers. Camera is identical. Z30 is much heavier than the Z10. It's also much heavier than Android phones with the same screen size. More native BB 10 games work on the Z10 as that was the model the dev kits were based versus Z30.

Hope this helps.

The Z10 seems like it would be a good deal for $100 apart from the poor battery life. If you had to choose between the two, which would you prefer, the Z10 for $100 or the Z30 for $250? And would you consider either a step up from the Galaxy S2?

Thanks.

My choice is for a new Samsung Galaxy S5. Bye bye Blackberry. Will pick it up hopefully this week.

(Note: What my employer will provide. Maybe I will get a Blackberry as my very personal hobby phone. I don't think you can go wrong with the Q10 or Z30, or their successors. But is there hope for the Blackberry company? Is it a going concern?)

I'm surprised with the number of keyboard options on Android (soon coming to iOS) that there is much difference - at least that's a better reason than buy Canadian.

I have the optionto purchase the Z10 or Z30 outright at about half the present market cost. I am just trying to determine if the Z30 is worth 2.5 times the dollar value of the Z10, and if either is a big step up from the old Samsung S2X I am presently using.

If not a big upgrade, I could always wait to see if the Nexus 6 will be brought out later this year.

I'd say if you're using it for browsing and texting, both are a much better experience on the Z30. Keyboard is larger, screen is beautiful and larger and as djk mentioned, the batter life is much, much better.

Every time I'm in a group of friends and pull out my phone to show them pictures or something I'm browsing, I always hear "is that a Samsung or...?". They're always blown away when I tell them it's BlackBerry. They're always really impressed with the speed and clarity of the display.

For $150 more, the Z30 is a no brainer IMHO.

I wouldn't consider the Z10. The poor battery life ruins it. You will be lucky to last half a day with moderate usage.

As for the Z30, are you getting this price on a contract renewal or unsubsidized? If you're renewing your contract, I would wait until Sept-Oct. There will be a ton of new devices coming out that will put the Z30 to shame. Note 3, iPhone 6 and new Blackberries too.

If you're buying outright, definitely go for the Z30.

Lastly, both are a step up from the Galaxy S2 except in the apps department. You mentioned you'll only do browsing and texting, so the Z30 can handle that flawlessly but don't expect to be able to download the latest app everyone is raving about online.

Thanks again.

I am buying outright, no contract. The Z10 seemed adequate until the lack of battery was mentioned. I already have problems with the Samsung S2X when browsing for a few hours while away from a charging source.

I don't need the newest and most up to date phone, so the Z30 should last me for a while.

You asked "what can your phone do that a Samsung with Android can't?" I explained the difference and that's your reply?

The Z30 is regarded as having one of the best keyboards of any smartphone on the market. Since I do a lot of typing, it makes sense to go with the best!

The first BB I used was the one that was the size of a big pager and it had a scroll wheel. It was awesome!

I have nothing but respect for the hardware or the software. Just wish RIM had done a better job!

Depending on usage, I dont think anyone can go wrong with a BB. Ultimately, it comes down what you are using it for.
I agree, but you'll have trouble convincing some of the usual suspects who think iPhone or Android are the only things worth purchasing. Buy what best suits your needs. If it's an iPhone or Android then go for it, but why shit all over Blackberry when for some (like me) is an excellent choice.
