Worked at a place where we had a unisex bathroom. I walked out of the BR (after pissing and left seat up) and a female co worker went in , she came out immediately and said to me, "Have some courtesy for the next person who has to use it!" (she expected me to put seat down after use)
My reply: "How do know that the next person using it will be a female?, it's a unisex bathroom!" She still insisted that she was correct in BR etiquette, lol, what a dumbass, ....and yes she was a feminist.

Circa 2004 I took a road trip to New Orleans. At the time, that meant a lot of listening to AM radio through the US South. Of course Rush was the main guy through the day, but at night, the local Rush clones got on the air, and that's when it really got wild.

One guy went on an hour long rant about how Wicker furniture is evil. Because the word Wicker means "to bend", and that is the same root as Wiccan. So having Wicker furniture is the same as being a witch.

More than anything else, that moment helped me understand how cooked the US was. Imagine growing up just hearing that kind of stupidity as background noise. No wonder they are where they are.

When I was a child, many moons ago, there were few restrictions placed on advertisers. There were commercials touting the health benefits of sugar. And a neighbour started feeding her children spoonfuls of sugar.
