Fentanyl is an American invention. Surgeons were looking for a heart surgery drug more stable than morphine. They developed Fentanyl in the late 50's for open heart surgery.
They gave me Fentanyl for stent placement, the tragic part, it became a street drug.
The problem is initially they are, despite warning and sanctions, continuing to supply the chemicals to make it to Mexican Cartels, who do so in mass quantities. And its to undermine Western Society.
In some ways I would equate it to a slow chemical weapons attack for its deadly nature and societal cost. And perhaps its time to treat these dealers and cartels as terrorists.
You mean prosecute drug dealers and send them to jail. Has anyone ever done that before??!!

Ni it doesn't solve the problem because then the liberals will complain that the health authorities aren't doing enough to get them off of drugs and drug addicts also created a rise in crime.
Safe injection sites are there to help prevent overdoses and prevent the spread of diseases from users sharing needles. I know some places provide the drugs, but ensure they are not mixed with fentanyl or other surprises that could lead to deaths.
They're always going to be with us. Let's try and keep them alive and as healthy as we can.

I am hopelessly addicted to holistic massage. But I don't make myself
a burden to the society and to those I am close to. Now I am not suggesting
not to take care of hopelessly addicted druggies. I just don't think keeping
the addicted healthy is any realistic. I mean you cannot keep heavy smokers
and drinkers healthy. The best you can do is to help them to live longer at a heavy
cost. We ought to educate kids starting from a young age as well as their parents
on the evil of drugs and to some degree tobacco and alcohol as well.

Regardless of the amount of education, a % of the population is going to have addiction issues.
If this was a subsistence level hunter-gatherer society with adequate food for only those prepared to go out and gather sweetgrass and hunt mammoths, there would be an argument that non-contributing members of society should starve. But it's still an affluent society.
China always plays the long game while other nations have short attention spans and always look for the instant gratification.
Take street level Narcan out of play and instead provide free diabetes medication to people who actually want to live. Once the hardcore addicts passon then the others who are savable will stand a chance of recovering. Narcan has been incorporated into the drug abuse cycle and it has to stop.
