I personally would argue that the 1983 TRS-80 Model 100 computer (think of a 2.5" thick iPad) was the primitive version of the tablet computer with the exception of the keyboard was hard keys (no touch technology) where the touchscreen keypad would appear. The modern concept of the tablet computer is from Microsoft in 2001.
