Hello!

I was wondering if someone know's a program that will disable those annoying pop up pages? I'd heard there was one, but didn't know what it was? Please post if you have some information. Many Thanks

Doh (sorry couldn't resist)

Try www.adsubtract.com

I had it for a couple of weeks now and seems to work well.
There are several others, just can't remember them all for you.

Regards,
KF.

There are a few to pick from...

Go to "CNET" and check out the ones they review. Pow, is the one I have been using for a few months, but there are others that are rated better.

Opera 6.0 Browser...

Been using this browser also for several months now. I like it because it is faster than IE and Netscape, and you can set it up to stop all pop-ups ads in its preferences.

Easy to use and it is free !

These guys have a free POP up stopper. Easy to install and you can also override it if you want the page to pop up.

I have been using it for over 2 years now, on Win95/98 Win2000 and XP.

Never had any problems.

I keep an older version of Netscape to use for surfing unknown sites, like porn sites, that are full of pop ups and other nasty stuff. Leave java, java Script & cookies off and there will be no pop ups or other nasty programs trying to reconfigure your system.

First of all, lavasoft is a great program, but it gets rid of spyware. I'm not aware that it does anything about popups.

My personal way of getting rid of them in IE is going to Tools, Internet Options, Security Tab, Custom Level, and then click "disable" on the Active Scripting option (near the bottom).

For sites that absolutely must have javascript (Hotmail being one), you can add the site to your "Trusted Sites".
Similar method to above: go to Tools, Internet Options, Security Tab, then click the Trusted Sites icon (green with a checkmark), then the button that says "Sites..." and type "hotmail.com". You might also have to add "msn.com" because they move you around in hotmail.

Sorry if that was confusing....

Thanks

Thanks to all for your help! By pop up pages, I mean those little windows that pop up when you open up some web sites, and have to close them all down one at a time.
Thanks again.

History Kill

I use a cheap program called history kill. It has a pop-up killer that can be esiyly toggled on or off and it notifies you when it kills a pop up. CRTL+click will allow you to open a pop-up link once without turning it off.

Disk File Shredder
Pop Up Killer
Boss Key
Cookie Manager
Auto History Removal

I am sure if someone knows what they are really doing they can find the evidence on your computer but this will fend off most advanced bosses and spouses.

The "y" is missing from the Link. It should be:

http://www.Historykill.com

After a 15 day trial period, it costs US$39.95.

Maybe the "y" was missing because Toad ate it! ;)

I too have been using this one for a long time and love it.

I've tried a number of different ones, and have found this one (Pop-Up Stopper) to be the best. There's a free version & a Pro version - the Pro adds extra algorithms to stop some of the more tricky pop-ups - well worth the price. but try the free one for a bit... They also recently came out with Pop-Up Stopper Companion which also deals with cookies and other stuff, but I haven't tried it yet (but they do have a trial version you can download)
