Armando Galarraga(notes) was robbed. Stone-cold fleeced. The Detroit Tigers right-hander retired the first 26 Cleveland Indians he faced, and the 27th, Jason Donald(notes), sliced a ground ball wide of first base. Miguel Cabrera(notes) fielded it and threw it to a Galarraga, whose foot hit the bag before Donald’s did. It was the 21st perfect game in major league history.

Until Jim Joyce opened his mouth.

Oh my!! He was out. What a game. Armando shows a lot of class in post game interview.

AND WHAT A CATCH in the 9th inning by Detroits Austin Jackson to preserve the perfect.

That ump has just earned himself a niche in MLB and Detroit Tigers history as the meanest, most incompetent piece of shit umpire in the history of the franchise. Even if he had a doubt about the out, the decent thing to do would have been to call the runner out and give the kid the perfect game. I mean, the last batter of the game reaches first, 90% of the time he is not subsequently going to score anyway.

He was clearly out but this could die down quick. The ump went to Galarraga and apologized and also released a statement that he was wrong and actually felt bad. Galarraga accepted his apology and so did Tigers manager Jim Leyland

And that would have been the first time in MLB history that there were 3 perfect games in one season. And still 4 months to go.

The powers-that-be should take the bold step of overruling the ump and giving the kid the perfect game he so well deserves.

But don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen because the MLB honchos are too fucking stupid!

Even our Courts overrule, after the fact, erroneous wrongful convictions even if appeals have failed and the time limits have long passed.

Suppose that this were the 7th game of the World Series... MLB would still give the title to the losing team! :mad:

Well, if they do that, they should give the Blue Jays credit for a triple play in the 1992 World Series, and replay the last couple of innings of Game 6 of the 1985 World Series as well.

Can't justify the current injustice just because there were other historical injustices. The Commissioner should do the right thing now. This is a black eye for baseball. It is all over the media. Many are calling for Jim Joyce's head.

I don't think that MLB should be going back and declaring it a perfect game. Officially there was one hit, a runner reached base, that is the end of the conversation. The pitcher recorded the final out, his team earned a shut out and the sun rose the next morning, the world continues to spin.

For the people who are saying that it was a 28 out perfect game, are you also going to recognize people like Andy Hawkins or Matt Young who threw 8 inning no-hitters but lost? What about Pedro Martinez who retired the first 27 batters only to give up a hit in the 10th? Do you give these guys credit for their accomplishments which would be in the record books if not for the activities of other people on the field?

It is a shame to see this happen, but I give credit to both Galarraga and Joyce for the way in which they have handled themselves in this media storm. Both should be commended.

What about a guy who has a perfect game through 26 batters but doesn't get a looked third strike call? Should we seek out video to double check the call on the 3-2 pitch that Milt Pappas threw to Larry Stahl in 1972? What about the 1-2 pitch to George McQuillan from Hooks Wiltse? In that case the ump said he should have called it a strike, only to have McQuillan drill Wiltse with the 2-2 pitch and ruin the perfect game.

If you make this change then Galarraga has actually thrown the 23rd Perfect Game of all time.
