This is one of the best dramas on TV today.

Tonights episode has Tony (being separated from his wife) making moves on his old shrink. She won't have anything to do with him. Can we blame her? Tonys not taking it very well.

In future episodes there is going to be a release of a bunch of old crime family members from jail that will be introduce as the season moves forward. One of the actors that plays on of these parts is going to be Steve Buscemi. I always liked his presence in films. He was Mr. Pink in Resevoir Dogs, and one of the kidnappers in Fargo. I think he'll bring alot to the show. --- Kev

The Season 5 premier was good. The show had an edge about it, such as Chris and Pauly going at each other, then the two of them wacking the waiter. I thought Tony might have lashed out hard at the shrink, maybe he still will? Hopefuly, this season gets back to the level of season 1-3.
Nothing like a wacking to bring two guys together. Wait, that didn't sound right...

Unlikely that Chris will get whacked cause Tony would lose it, as Chris is "blood". Paulie knows he has to respect that.

I think Steve Buscemi will provide some of the comic relief that is missing now that Ralphie Ciferetto is gone

I agree. With the mob its all about business.

I think Tony is going to tap that shrink's ass too..........eventually. --- Kev

I love The Sporanos but the one thing that's bothered me is that Tony's character has gotten darker and darker with each season. In the first season you were drawn into the fact that even though he was a mafia guy he still had ordinary problems with his wife and kids and with his mother. Now he's just a straight socio-path with little redeeming value. At least for the first season he appeared to give a crap about his family...

There's a reason for the gradual change, Ocean. The creators of the Sopranos from the beginning have carried subtly changing plotlines over from one season to the next. Like a six part opera, the show is beginning it's second to last season, and this season is largely going to set up the last. It was cool to see the "ordinary family life" mixed with the life of crime, but the creators of the show have oft repeated that Tony Soprano is nobody's hero. As the show reaches its climax Tony will continue to lose the parts of his life that kept the monster inside him in check. As his family life falls apart so will his business, and I guarantee the last series finale will end with Tony lying in a pool of his own blood. Just like with the Godfather, we're supposed to like these characters, but ultimately be shown that crime doesn't pay.

I watched it on tivo, replayed it, still framed it... if it's a body double, it's pretty well done.

I'll just remember it as real and be happy.

I was a little disappointed by the season opener. Thought there could have been more serious plotlines - like the Adrianna - F.B.I. pressure line - developed. Oh well. I don't think the Christopher and Paulie telephone call was a set up. It just reinforces how committing violence is what bonds these types of guys together. As for the darkening of Tony Soprano, I think it is deliberate and timely. It shows how the thing that kept him anquored (spelling?) personally and professionally was his home life no matter how dysfunctional. Now that is severed, at Carmela's insistence, he has lost his sense of control over everything. Dr. Melfi's rejection was just an extra nail in that coffin. I think a great plot line would be his sexually assaulting Dr. Melfi and then her being unable to report it to the police because of their patient/doctor relationship.

As for Dr. Melfi herself, of course, that was a body double! If you'll look at Lorraine Bracco this season, she looks like she's put on a lot of weight. Look around the neck and shoulders especially. Plus, she is wearing less revealing clothes. Definately a body double.

Just my two cents worth, as a Sopranos fan and writer/journalist/prospective screenwriter.

I think a great story line would be Carmela getting nabbed by the feds for investing the $40,000 in tbills that she stole from the birdfeeder (as proceeds of crime) and being pressured (like Adrianna) to save her own neck by testifying against Tony in the criminal courts.

Give me a job David Chase!

Wasn't there a previous episode where Tony had a dream of Melfi showering and they show her body (and more importantly, her breasts)? I have season 1-4 on DVD and I never saw THAT scene... I do recall it tho... maybe it was deja vu?

And what is it about this show thats so damn addictive?

And... if you could be one character from the show, who would you like to be? I wouldn't mind being Tony... he has all the power and the chicks!

Silvio. Surrounded by beauties all day long, and never once having someone try to whack me.

Now that was deep!

You are having a flashback of Scarface with another familiar Tony.

Rumour for season 5

apparently the worst kep secret is that Adrienne gets wacked for talking to the feds, we dont know when but apparently during a press conferance she was asked what she thought of the script to reply "its not like i got to read much of it, is it ?"

maybe just a survivor style red herring ?

And when he's not filming the show Silvio gets to share the stage with the Boss!

I agree, she has put on lbs. That was surely a body double that was riding Tony in her dream.

Carmela did invest the $40k but she did it in 4 separate transactions that were just under $10k each, thus avoiding the IRS notification that is required on transactions $10k & over.
