Anyone attending the film festival? I dropped by Dundas Square last year and saw 4 gorgeous young ladies in low cut dresses posing for photos. I have no clue who they were.

Wilds of the GTA
Tiff

I have always heard that it is "happy harvest time" for every SP in the area.

And one mentioned to me that the Producers are generally way nicer than the 'talent'.

Just stay away from the managers or agents, they're dirt, yet treat you worse. They'd sell their mothers for a bar of soap.

I was sick of hearing about it before it got started. Overkill! All those film dorks! Can't wait until it's over.......
Agreed. It's not the film dorks that irk me, it's all the starstruck losers who camp out around Yorkville just to get a glimpse of Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Seriously, no wonder the rest of country as well as the States view Toronto as a poser city.

I'm guessing you don't go to any of the premiers then. It's probably considered one of the top five film festivals in the world by people more knowledgeable about that kind of business than you so ....... Hmmmmm.

I hate this time of the year. Bunch of posers hanging around to get a glimpse of some overpaid smile who got famous playing someone other than him/herself. The press makes it seem like nothing else exists right now except for the need to feed this idolatry. Wankers.

Hey, I love a good movie like everyone else. But to go ga-ga over these supposed "master thespians" is a joke.

Why don't we put out the red carpet for real heroes instead: soldiers, cops, firefighters, single mother working 3 jobs

And if you're that wanker hanging out at the Starbucks in Yorkville or trying to score tickets to some red carpet event just to press the flesh of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, you really should re-evaluate your priorities.

No I don't attend the premieres, and nobody doubts that TIFF along with Cannes & Sundance make up the "Big Three". As a film festival it is very much an industry event. And I used to work in Film Programming for Famous Players before the Cineplex merger, so I'm not unfamiliar with the subject matter.

It's the tertiary stuff that bothers me. I don't think it deserves to lead off every local newscast. I don't think I need to see Philip Seymour Hoffman enjoying an ice cap on the front page of the Sun. And I don't think it's reflective of the city to act all "Hollywood" once a year for a 10 day stretch so that we can validate ourselves as world class.

I really hate this time of the year as well....

Can't stand that the local news spends the first five - ten minutes on some stupid movie opening or on a celebrity that was spotted walking down Bloor Street....

And then the streets are filled up with even more hipster douchebags and posers.....
You can't walk anywhere downtown without being diverted or blocked by some stupid Festival bullshit....

And all the local Entertainment reporters are kissing celebrity ass like its an Olympic Sport....Can't stand Ben "NancyBoy" Mulroney and Tanya "LadyBoy" Kim propping up the festival making it seem that it's the most important event of the planet....

Agree with you and others, but you all forgot one major positive.

It brings millions of dollars to the sinking TO economy. Exposure of our city.
Plus all hotels are solid booked and restaurants are sucking in the dollars to compensate for the bad year they had.

To add, a good vibe in the downtown core etc...

I agree with you all the way with that. I don't watch a lot of local news for that exact reason, their priorities suck big time most of the times and then the big stories gobble up 3 minutes and then we're told to get more information on the web site a www. ....... screw off, tell me now.

Back to the OP;

You can find posers everywhere in TO and this just concentrates them, but it's fun to watch from afar and get the heads up on some amazing films you wouldn't see/know any other way.

I'll never understand celebrity worship.
I used to buy season tickets to the TIFF years back, but now it's too expensive and too pretentious. It's really just an industry event.

Why does Brian need 3 names? Are we suppose to remember all 3?
As per SAG (Screen Actor's Guild) you cannot have the same name as another member.

Michael Keaton's real name is Michael Douglas. Problem! He chose the last name Keaton because Diane Keaton is his fave actress.

The "J" in Michael J. Fox stands for nothing. There is already another member of SAG named Michael Fox.

There is probably a Brian Greene already (not an uncommon name) so he either used his middle name or picked one that sounded good.

This is mostly why this new generation of actors comes replete with 3 name threats!
