At the time of the 9/11 strikes there were a number of anti-US threads here on TERB. I saw them and I know Ripper was here to see them also. They are creeping up more and more frequently now.

There is genuine hate here that is expressed towards Americans every week at TERB. It is hard to imagine that another mass killing in the US would not bring cheer to al least some Canadians, especially in the TO area where there are large ethnic communities from countries that have long-opposed the US.

I probalbly should have pointed out that my reply was sarcasm

I think that it would be a much more friendly board if a few of the americans layed off the antagonistic comments..... I have a feeling that if many of us went on to an American forum.. we would get as many warm response as ripper gets here, if we spewed similar shit that he does here.

Nonsense .
It was Ripper that started the "US as victim" angle to this subject - and not for the first time . While there is criticism of US government policy and actions on this Board on occaision , with the exception of 2 or 3 people it is no more than what is reserved for our own government . There are also 2 or 3 people such as Ripper and EBS who spare no opportunity to be anti-Canadian . So what ? Stop being so ultra-sensitive . Geez .

This thread started as concern that Canadian immigration policies may have put us at risk . Most here are critical of past Canadian policies and actions . How is this construed as anti-american is beyond me .

In my chair
Send all these guys back to Pakistan for immigration violations. If they want to immigrate legitimately, let them get into line like everyone else.
After all, that's what my parents had to do.

I thought in the news, it said a couple of them were picked up during a pre-dawn walk along the beach at the pickering nuclear plant

definitely not paranoia

A terrorist attack here would strike too close to home for many amercans...
Last news did a clarification --

apparently one of those picked up knew some who knew the guys that went on the pre-dawn walk.

Not of the guys picked up went on the pre dawn walk.

From the article - it appears that most of my college class was guilty of the actions that got them picked up - slack ass students living on the cheap more concerened with fun than school. The only and main difference is that apparently they are in Canada illegally due to fraud by the school.

How pathetic. Ripper you have no clue about Canadians do you?

First of all, disagreeing with US politics does not equal agreeing with terrorism. Even a US citizen should be critical of his government, if you blindly follow your government you are a fool. Being critical of a government doesn't make you anti-anything, I'm not anti-US but I hate some of the US policies, and I certainly hate some of the US ignorance (as you've shown and continue to show) as well as there arrogance (nuff said), but on the other hand I know many many US citizens who I love to death.

Its not a black and white issue, don't listen to Bush,if you aren't with the US doesn't mean you support terrorism, and it most certainly doesn't mean you approve of it against any country at all.

But with that said, I hope the next terrorist atteck is against you Ripper. Enjoy.

My two cents.

I'm an American and proud to be an American. I'm also proud to say that I have very, VERY good friends who live in Canada, particularly in Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary. I visit frequently (but hobby rarely) and I've never been shown anything but graciousness and courtesy (except for a few times in Quebec City, but that's a story for another day).

I live and work 3 miles from the World Trade Center and on that terrible day in 2001, and in the days that followed, ALL my friends from Canada either contacted me or attempted to contact me. They told me tales of the horror they, their friends and family went through watching the events unfold. In other words they felt a HUMAN CONNECTION with the dead and suffering.

Sure it's fun to poke at each other. Hockey, baseball, beer, politics, etc., etc. But when it comes down to it, we share a common culture and language (more or less). Our historys are intertwined and, in many ways, inseparable.

One last thing, I know of a man from Ontario, a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician, who was a few blocks away from the Trade Center on his way to a business meeting (computers maybe?) when the planes hit. On instinct he went to the aid of the injured and dying. He was never seen again.

I am just going to state again ive seen more anti-American comments on here than anywhere else. Many of you said by our actions we have brought on terrorist threats to the U.S.,and i have to beleive there are many Canadians who would like to see us be put in our place. We still are losing many young American lives in Iraq and it doesnt seem one Canadian cares.I still beleive we were right in ousting Saddam.a ruthless dictator. Thanks,Rich

What do you expect when you come here and talk shit???

We still are losing many young American lives in Iraq and it doesnt seem one Canadian cares.

you are right... I don't care... why? you ask... well I ask you where are the WMDs that were such a threat to the world???

Without the WMD's.. the usa has no business being there... except to ensure a supply of cheap oil for themselves, and a permanent military base in the middle east

I still beleive we were right in ousting Saddam.a ruthless dictator. Thanks,Rich
At least you believe that... why don't you look at your govenment and "Homeland Security"?... I wonder, can you see who the real ruthless dictator is???

Nothing will be solved from this, there are obviously people on here that hate the U.S., and most Americans in general, and there are obviously some Americans on the board that are feeling as if they need to defend their position, and the real problem is both sides are fraught with emotions more than they are facts. That rarely makes for a good debate, although it does make for an impassioned one. If you hate the U.S., just say so, if you hate Canada, just say so and get it over with already. I'm Canadian, and there are non-stop anti-American threads on here. I wouldn't mind it, and wouldn't mind being wrong and put in my place if the arguments on either side were based in logic and fact rather than raw emotion.

Let's agree to disagree, or listen to both side with a sympathetic ear before arguing.

Coolguy.
