Not really. In the shoes of the victim, I too would be traumatized and terrified.
But you can't kill or imprison for life every wrongdoer in order to satiate your desire for revenge. Crime will always be with us. It will always be upsetting and traumatic to the victims.
You have to balance reformation and fair treatment of the offender with protection of the victim and society.
This is where you say "But the courts failed to protect the public in this case because the criminal was released on bail and promptly re offended."
And this is where I say "But the law and order people only publicize instances where the system fails and not the majority of cases where the system does not fail, as part of their campaign of stirring up outrage, anger and desire for vengeance."
And that's the conversation, right?
