I don't want diet advise. Need to motivate. I weigh what I did in High School and I was a 3 sport athlete. That may be part of the problem. Eating right and being active just comes natural to me. They say, "what do you do?" My answer, "eating normal" doesn't cut it. They are active, but just eating machines. One male and one female.

Again, I'm not looking for diet advice, just how to get them motivated to do something. It's mostly an eating thing with both. They both realize they are obese, and want to do something about it, but just can't seem to get going. Not motivated enough.

Any advice? Best motivation?

You'll never convince them and they'll never have success unless they're motivated to do it themselves. Unless you're going to offer them money, you can't provide the motivation.

Maybe take them to a swimming pool? I was at a public pool recently where a least 75% of the people were asian, and while some of them were chubby, none were obese. (Yes I was checking out the hot moms). There was one white guy who just stood out like sore thumb. Not just because he was 1 ft taller than everyone else, mostly because had a huge belly and big fat ass. Poor guy looked so embarrassed. All the asian women were staying as far away as possible from this monster.

Invite them to do something active where they're not out in public. One thing that can deter fat people from exercising is that they look terrible in exercise clothes. So I think the pool is a terrible idea.

when they want to slim, they will. when the cost of being fat is greater than the cost of slimming, they will. not now. not for a while maybe. if their other friends are fat, they will stay fat. unfortunately, the odds are against YOU! it's very likely you will put on weight. what's your b.f. percentage?

Find a way to humiliate them without them knowing you were in on it, I put on 25 pounds a few years ago, people started to notice and I was embarassed, I quickly lost the weight.

Take them to an amusement part where they're gonna be too fat for a ride.

Don't say anything, they know they are fat. Just be an awesome friend and invite them along for activities like swimming - stuff that is low impact.

In your happy place
I actually have a small web series for plus size women...and the motto is that healthy is the best size there is.
I personally would ask them if they are happy with their size...if they are...then so be it.
However, overeating is an addiction and surprisingly just like being a workaholic, people turn a blind eye to it for some reason...same with gambling. I guess if you aren't fucking up anyone else and you don't act like a mess (like you would with alcohol and drugs) its ok.
If they want to do something about it...don't put them on a diet...diets do not work...however, peek in the fridge and explain to them what this food and that food does and its nutritional value. Then discuss walking and weights or even Wii Fit to start...slow and steady...and when they realize that it works and they are losing weight...they will stick with it.
However, remember that just like any addiction...relapse is sometimes inevitable and if you just encourage them to get back on the horse...
Again though...ask them first...no one likes to be preached to...
I lost 100 lbs in 6 months from doing the elliptical every day and changing what I was putting in my mouth (insert joke here)

Sit in front of them and eat a bacon burger, fries, and a coke. As you're eating it and savoring the taste, tell them that eating foods like that is detrimental to their health.

There is nothing scarier than dying. I knew a guy that was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He announced to his fellow workers that he was going to take time off and take care of the situation and that his type of cancer was easily cured. He died a few months later. That got me to going regularly to the urologist for regular check ups.

Tell your friends that carrying extra weight leads to all sorts of health problems. The lucky ones die clutching their chest, the unlucky ones linger and suffer for years in an institution.

That's another problem. I may have lunch with either one once a week. They say, "if I eat like you I get fat." What I tell them, and do, is ONLY eat like that one meal a week. They have 3 meals a day 7 days a week like mine and no wonder they're fat. Not exactly those words. Being bad one meal a week isn't bad, it's pigging out all day every day that makes you fat!

You may be right. It may just take them looking in the mirror some day.
With a comment like that, I think you'd be more of a problem than a help. Clearly you look down on them.

They look at themselves in the mirror everyday and it hasn't changed their behaviour yet.

No need to play hero...

I think the whole point is to let them know the full extent of how terrible they look.

You stated that they know they're fat and yet they do nothing about it (but complain to you about it). So they're not ready to lose the weight and there is nothing that you can do about it. They have to get off their fat asses and motivate themselves. Are you going to be there at 3am when they crave food? Also, the advice given to ridicule/mock them might backfire and get them more depressed and more likely to eat even more food (just like a vicious cycle). I guess understanding the problem (i.e. why they eat so much) would be the first step in their recovery.
