There might be some grandstanding but its part of negotiation. It would be silly to offer what you would accept as your opening especially when all other countries are looking to get the most out of you.
If setting tariff to 145% and then lowering it to 80% is what you imagine
to be a part of negotiation then I guess you have no idea what it takes for
people to take you seriously in the real world.
Last time I checked the U.S. is also planning to lower tariff on
China to *as low as* 50%.
The world has figured out the U.S. has a clown in charge whom
no one would take seriously. Trump's administration sooner or
later will have to chose between the path to economic collapse
and the path to zero tariffs. Since either path will bring Trump
down he will have to find a way to commit political suicide to save
his face and his ego.
Unfortunately, it may take more than just waiting it out bc of how china is run by the CCP. Accelerating a regime change through social and political unrest would be beneficial to the Chinese and the entire world.
