Per Capita, the Americans have a much higher Covid-19 infection and death rate than Canada. Accept facts and just do not make up some bogus statements. Obviously, you are not aware that most Canadian provinces did follow the lockdown procedures, while certain US States like Florida had their beaches etc up and running with business as usual. No wonder that their infections rates and those in 18 other states are going in the wrong direction. Canada are 100% right to keep the border shut for a further month. Better to get it right in the very beginning and then overcoming the barriers rather than the rash decisions by those US states that consist of mainly the Republican Governors!!
Per capita yes, I never said per capita, I said there would more cases of covid, Canada only has about 1/10th of our population. I'm not disagreeing with another month of keeping the border closed either, another year or years on the other hand, would be foolish. One of the main reasons why there's been a spike is because there's more testing going on. It's no secret there were gonna be a rise in cases. I think a lot of people generalize on this board that most people from the state's are pro trump. Why can't we put politics aside to a certain degree. Trump does a lot of things right and also makes his fair share of mistakes. Like it or not, he's our president and same deal with Trudeau. What's bothers me is the name calling on this board. You can talk politics and discuss why our leaders have done this or that, were all individuals on this board that are responsible mainly for our own decisions we make in life. I think we need to stop generalizing one another for our leaders decisions. I'm a member of another board in the state's and I don't see this kind of vitriol towards Canadiens. I appreciate the business you all bring when you visit my country and I hope that many of you feel the same about us. It's a shame cause I've never met one Canadian person whose been anything other than nice in my 60+ trips to your country. I suppose it's easier to air out your grievances on a review board

Even if you take the Per Capita figures into consideration Canada's infection and death rates would still be lower. Well until both sides of the border have a total control of this Pandemic, then it is wise to keep the border shut for now. Virtually impossible to keep it shut for one year. Well the right wingers on this Board said worse things about Clinton during the Elections and were even chanting "Jail Her". They have abusive name calling against our own PM. In other words, this is all about Politics. Well what was concerning to us Canadians is when Trump imposed tariffs against the Canadians and then went on to bash our Farmers. We are an ally of the USA, so why start a trade war against us? Well, I hope you enjoy your trip here. I also have good buddies in the USA, and there are a small number that are Trump supporters. So the heated discussions are interesting to say the least. But we then still enjoy our beer later on. LOL!!

Agreed, Trump makes mistakes. I hope relations improve between both our countries in the future. Sorry to hear about the bashing from my fellow Americans, lol. This is your own review board and I think in general, we should be more respectful. There's nothing wrong with a little criticism as long as it's said constructively imho. I think we all know discussing politics person to person is gonna cause some heated arguments, lol. Better on a review board than causing a physical fight, which happens here and there, lol At the end of the day we have to remember the REAL reason were here, to talk about our hobbying and hopefully learn a thing or two from one another's experience. Canadian or American, we all love our pussy. Whether you lean left or right, one side of the border or the other! Thanks for the kind words. I wouldn't have travelled to Canada 60 times if I didn't enjoy your wonderful country. We need each other!

You've got a lot of vitriol towards Americans huh? We're mostly stupid? Covid rates would be a lot higher in Canada if you had 370 million people regardless of who's running the country. Has Everybody up in Canada followed the rules on quarantine as well? We have "stupid" people on both sides. Keep the border closed for years and see how badly your economy gets hit without us "stupid" Americans to come and visit. Geez, I didn't realize how much anti American rhetoric you have on this board.
This has nothing to do on my part with being against Americans. Half my family is in the US and I have many friends there and have been going to the US for a very long time and enjoy meeting Americans here.

This unfortunately has everything to do with the shit show that is going on there, where no two States can agree on anything 117,000 deaths so far with cases spiking in some of the major and most heavily populated states and people just plain not following any kind of social distancing. Protests all over the place, beaches open and unfortunately a lot of gatherings and people just ignoring the health professionals recommendations.
We all probably watch more American TV than anything else and are well aware of what is going on.
like I said I live in Montreal and we have our own local shit show going on here as the New York of Canada, although right now it has improved quite a bit and hope it stays that way.
That is the reality and based on that I hope the borders stay closed for the rest of the year. I would love to see tourists from all over the world here especially Americans as they are generous and good people and our economy depends on them.
Sadly there is far too much politics being applied by people in power to serve their own needs while ignoring the health and welfare of the people, Americans are not alone in this by a long shot.

When you see americans ready to take their guns to defend their rights not to wear a mask... Makes me think we will not see a reopening of the border until early 2021.

Doubt if that's the metric they are looking at. More likely covid cases per million population. Today's numbers - NY 31.1, Michigan 65.1 and Ontario 7.4. Sometime next year doesn't seem overly pessimistic

Any updates on border opening?
Another formal decision shortly before 9/21. Another month beyond that almost certainly, but some restrictions pertaining to family members may be relaxed. Six month anniversary of the pandemic declaration on 9/11. Already a holiday in the US, since it enabled all sorts of PATRIOT games for the Dubya/Dick mob, including the Department of Homeland Stupidity. Unfortunately, DHS has a lot of say when it comes to the border...

Keep the borders closed except for essential business/trade for the next 4 years, regardless of who wins in November. What are we missing? you want to travel? there is an entire planet to see out there once vacationing opens up, that is vastly more interesting than a nation built on selfishness, greed and where the height of success is how much money you make and how much stuff you own.

Yes true but you got to paint the full picture here. I have a love/hate relationship with the US. I despise them for the exact same thing you wrote but I can tell you that after nearly 20 years of extensive traveling to the USA (because of my job mostly) but there is something beyond it.

First of all doing business with Americans is the best. They are loyal. And they will say there is shit when there is. Without fucking hypocrisy like Europeans or much worst the Asians! And they wont try to copy you they will try to cooperate with you or buy you. As simple as that.

Second thing is as greedy as they are they still will make all amends to help you if you need help.

And third is you feel so good in so many part of the US. From the beautiful mountains of Vermont to Virginia. The shore line of south Carolina. The pristine beach of San-Destin, Florida. The latino party feeling of Miami, all of the west coast from San-Diego to Napa valley up to Seatle. The skiing in Idaho and Utah. The beautiful mountain street of San-Francisco. The pure crazy party town of Nashville and Austin and of course the absolute liberty of partying in New Orleans where pretty much any girl loses it and show you their boobs just because you simply ask haha You cannot make that shit up. It's so much fun!

So as much as I think racism is currently killing it in the US I still want to go down there as soon as it's possible (and safe)!

Cheers,

All of this is largely irrelevant to the border issue. Both Ontario and WNY are seeing an upturn in cases right now. Nobody is going much of anywhere until either Covid -19 is fully under control or there are so many cases on both sides of the border that it won't matter anymore. If I had to make a guess I would say a workable vaccine by March and reopened border in May. On this timeline your 2021 4/20 celebration is bound to be the absolute bomb...

The can has officially been kicked down the road to 10/21 with an accompanying statement that any easing of current restrictions is very unlikely before American Thanksgiving -11/26 this year...
