Have always used multiple browsers.
Found this advice in another tech forum and thought of passing it along:

Though I have found that two different browsers load two different pages faster (one page each) than one browser will load two separate page's (two tabs), must be that browsers do not yet multi-task. Another consideration is security. I split up my tasks among individual browsers to cut down on cookie tracking. For instance all my search is with Chrome, Social sites, email with Flock, Opera sites and programing with Opera browser, Purchasing, video downloading with Firefox. Each browser has it's assigned news sites. The idea is to prevent the cookie session of one browser acquiring all the information of my searches and surfing, secondly if the security of one browser is compromised not all is lost. Thirdly the use of multiple browsers allows options when one browser is down or not up to par for what ever reason.

Doesn't that fill up your RAM pretty quickly and make things choppy or stall altogether?

Reason I ask is that I'm currently running Firefox on a Windows 7 OS and it stalls all the freakin' time. I get this cheeky "Not responding" message whenever I create a tab (Open in new tab) or switch back & forth between browser and email. Thing is, I just got it back from the shop after having a virus wreck everything so all my programs - browser, mail, etc - are brand new.

Not at all.
I do this all the time and all runs fine.

How much RAM do you have?

Just fixed my sister's PC where FF was highjacked, redirecting her to another site all the time. When she tried to correct it, FF usage was pegged at 100% causing her PC to lockup and not respond. IE and Opera bowsers were working fine. Only FF was farked up. This bug also removed AVG anti-virus on her PC running XP! The bug also blocked the 'red shield alert' from popping up in lower right-hand side to tell her she had NO anti-virus!

Ended up installing and running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46, which found 4 malware objects buried in the registry!
Removed the 4 bugs and installed Avast for AV, along with the newest version of CCleaner. Then removed her old version of FF and reinstalled the latest FF and all is well again.

Told her to update her stuff more frequently......she said she doesn't like to bother with doing things like that.....

Crap. Had another post written and it friggin' vanished. I'll try again.

I've got 4 gig RAM so that should be plenty. The problem that your sister had with her computer is identical to the virus I had. I downloaded Malwarebytes program, tried to update my AVG and downloaded another program (can't remember what it was at the moment) but the programs wouldn't run. I figure the virus had somehow kept the programs from running.

I haven't yet removed the old FF but that's my next step.

Oh, on sites like this where I have a username and password I often have to re-log in every time even though I check the little box that says, "Remember settings." It's pissin me off.

Anyway, maybe I'll just ditch FF and go with Chrome instead.

Chrome is nice and faster than FF.
Make sure to completely remove the old FF then reinstall the newest FF version.

This is another good reason to have 2-3 browsers in case one browser is attacked and put out of commission, you have other browsers to use to correct the problem. I used Opera to download what was needed to to clean out the bugs and get the newest version on FF. Could have done the same with IE but I don't like IE and seldom use IE anymore.

If you only have one browser and get hit with this bug making your browser unusable you are farked. This bug is floating around. Have heard of others being hit by it. My sister is not that tech savvy and claims to only use 'safe sites', so who knows where she may have picked it up from.

you might want to rethink saving important information on your computer, especially if you're sloppy enough to be getting virii. it's been years since the computers in my house have been hit.

Never going to install Chrome, Google knows enough about me. I don't like their invasion of privacy.

www.scroogle.org FTW (for searches).

I am a big fan of Chrome because it has good security. Chrome sandboxes Web pages, which prevent drive-by downloads and installations.

What sites do you visit that "insist" on downloading and installing on your computer?
Never had that problem with FireFox, along with the NoScript addon.
