The magic of having a cat or dog is the communication you have with them. I grew up liking dogs, all little boys like dogs. It was when I got my first cat that I discovered that they can understand and communicate with people very well if you let them. I have a friend. She has three cats, these cats know me very well. One of the cats kept biting, scratching and kicking me. He was just communicating that he was the boss of the cats and was jealous when I played with the other two cats. Now if I visit my friend. I know that I have to play with the older cat first before I play with the others, When I leave, I have to scratch his cheek and ears for a few minutes, so that he does not get jealous . He has not gotten jealous for over a year since I have been doing this and has not nipped or scratched me recently. Just as you know your cat or dog, you start to anticipate what they are thinking. As they get to know you they anticipate what you are thinking.

Dogs love you. Cats have murder in their hearts. I'm a dog guy through and through.
Dogs love you unconditionally. The love of a cat you have to earn.

Human is no better. You bride/pay/feed them, they may like you conditionally.
And I've been befriended by neighbours' doggies without having to feed them.

Dogs are pack animals. They want to belong and seek leadership. Cats hunt alone.

I sleep with one eye open around cats.

I've had both, but I by far prefer dogs.

Cats are only loyal to you when they want something. With dogs you leave them for a hour and come back home, they behave like they haven't seen you for ages and it makes you feel appreciated.

Hell, my dog always happily greets me no matter what, the wife doesn't even bother to say 'fuck off' to me when I walk through the door.

So basically, cats are like people?

That is far from the truth. If you become friends with a cat, he will be loyal to you for life.

I am an equal opportunity animal lover. Makes no difference to me.

I like both.
Have a cat, but dogs are my fav.
Not quite ready for next dog .... yet.

I know that feeling. Took me 2 years after the death of my last one but just got the new addition.

We go for early morning walks. Trees, birds chirping, fresh air, exercise. Sure, I can go alone but it's much more enjoyable with my best friend. He alerts me when someone comes to the door. And when I return home, he goes bonkers with excitement. Pomeranian. Dogs. No cats.
Great breed!

Deciding to get a dog is like deciding to have a child and I don't want another kid. They're a lot of work to take care of and it's not fair to leave them alone for long periods of time. Cats for the most part are are low maintenance. Provide food, water, a litter box and take off for the weekend without a worry. I love dogs but as far as owning pets, it's cats for me.

Dogs will love you even if you stop. Therein lies the difference.

Humans keeps dogs as pets. Cats keep humans as pets. That's how I look at it.

Having said that, cats are pretty cute.

Yes they are... I also like that they share many of the same traits as larger felines. Here's some cool footage (and the making of) the fastest land animal.

My guestion is based on a preference and maybe, Why you prefer one from the other!

As for me,??? I inherited 8 pets at home and this is not including the two rats???
Rats are great pets very smart and friendly, playful.
Dogs will make you be active by walking and playing with them. More affectionate than cats of course.
