What Do You Think Is The Best BEER (available in Toronto)?

Captain Fantastic said:
Not the best, but pretty damn good and the most interesting Toronto-area beer in quite some time: Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale (and their Orange Peel and Winter Ales deserve a mention.) Mill Street Extra Special Bitter gets a shout-out too. Oh, and the Amsterdam Pomegranate Wheat is a great summer beer. Mmmm, beer!
Agreed - I love the variety that the Great Lakes brewery offers. The Winter Ale is my new Christmas eve drink and the Pumpkin is really very interesting. I get as excited about their beers as a nice wine, I love trying to pair it with a good meal!
Amsterdam pom. wheat is my favorite summer BBQ brew. :)

Big Rock Traditional Ale (made in Alberta, but available here).

I've also enjoyed Bass the few times I've tried it. Hey Lancs, are the others on your list like Bass?

Sorry, just saw this , no they aren't.

I tried to post for a variety of tastes.

pretty near anything from Fullers is good and I hate to admit it but the Yorkshire brewers Smiths, has some mighty fine product.

Stuff from Kent is good too.

Burtonwood from Lancashire....

Danm, now I need a trip over there. Most are availale here though, just not as a Real Ale.

Cheers.

Nice little beer from north of the city - Robert Simpson Confederation Ale. It's from Barrie and has just won a bunch of awards. If you buy it, don't forget to read under the bottecap. And please note, it does require a beer bottle opener to remove the cap (no twistoff). Oh yeah, the bottle's bigger than normal (355 ml).

It's time for a Halloween candy for grown ups.

in the LCBO yesterday for a treat and found a beer brewed only this time of year;

Peche Mortel Imperial Stout au Cafe

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1141/10325

Another Quebec micro brewery makes the notable list. The beer is one of the best imperial Stout i've ever had, definitely the best Canadian edition. Light will definitely fail to penetrate this brew and the 9.5% AC makes this one to drink when you plan to stay put. Don't drink it too cold and let it sit for a minute. I know that difficult sometimes. Defintely one to drink with red meat and root vegetables, not chips and dip.

I've never seen any of these in the GTA or at the various tastings. worth getting into. Van Kleek Hill Ont.? It might be a good reason for a detour to or from Montreal one day.
I'm never one to discourage a detour to Montreal for the day, I'm doing that myself this week but there are a number of places here in Toronto that offer Beau's - http://www.beaus.ca/find (105 listings for Toronto) including these LCBO's
LCBO # 18 King & Dufferin (Liberty Village)
LCBO #10 Yonge & Summerhill
LCBO #217 Queens Quay & Yonge
LCBO #15 Dupont & Spadina
LCBO #5 Beach
LCBO #511 King & Spadina

Since the thread was resurrected I'm going to add Beau's Lug Tread lagered ale to my list - http://www.beaus.ca/beer/lug_tread
Yep, tried this recently in the big bottles.

Innis and Gunn.

Unibroue stuff out of Quebec.

I shop at the LCBO for beer for better selection, newer and unique stuff as well as limited edition packages.

St Ambroise has some popular stuff and Great Lakes some "colorful" stuff but haven't tried these yet.

Stuff? Unibruoe is one of the best micro brewing companies in the country. There isn't bad beer in the whole line up.
