Rules: English or Irish pub, ok Scottish too, as close to "UK authentic" as can be, no loud music, not a sports bar, not too trendy (ie. an actual interesting clientele), no Firkins or Gabby's (they're ok places and I frequent a few of them, but they're everywhere and I am looking for a unique one-off sort of pub).

I like the layout at the Bedford Academy on Prince Arthur, and there is a huge cookie cutter Irish Pub in the fake downtown strip at Hwy 7 and Hwy 400, beside Dave and Buster's, which is gorgeous on the inside but obviously faux-Dublin, in that its a, you know, a perfectly antique two-year old pub, if you follow. The Irish Embassy, though not intimate at all, works too, but its cavernous inside.

Anyhow, where's a nice real British Pub. Small, cozy, quiet, crappy food, good beer, all that crap?

There's a nice little place just behind the gardens. A real mix of cultures, mostly young, but some old fashion Canadians to give it some...colour. No loud music but lots of chatter...always had a good conversation or two..
Oh by the way, that's Covent Gardens, in London...England... and the pub...the Maple Leaf!

Sorry, hockey every Saturday night....

How fucking insulting is that...

The Black Dog.

Port Union Road and the 401. It is on Island Rd. Alcohol is affordable, pub fare is good, service is excellent, very mixed crowd from 20's to 70's. Really decent place just to hang for a few pints.

Funny. The Maple Leaf. Been there a few times. Fun times. Its the British version of a fake Irish Pub - faux Canada. Funny though.

Great Fish and Chips. Or at least back in 98 they were good.

Murphys Law at Queen St and Kingston Road is good. There are other pubs owned by the same people with different names so I guess it is technically a chain but I still like it. Three floors plus rooftop and sidewalk patios. Tuesday is wing night.

The Bow and Arrow (Yonge and Davisville).

I found a pub in Rome called The Celtic House near The Pantheon on Via dei Pastini. It's in an ancient part of the city and the building in which it's housed is at least half a millenium old. The beer is reasonably fresh and served at room temperature (warm); but be warned, if you don't like lamb/mutton dont eat there.

try whelans at keele/bloor. kicking little tiny dive pub, great draft beers, eccentric clientele, you'll love it.

Try the Feathers on Kingston Road near Victoria Park. As authentic British as you will find in Toronto. Used to Have Wellington on cask)not sure if they still do)

PJ OBrien's on Colbourne, right downtown. He also owns the Irish Embassy at Yonge and Wellington.
Really authentic feel to the places, complete with the barmen in white coats.
Beer and grub excellent.
As you can tell, two of my favourite watering holes downtown.

I'm unfamiliar with that area of Toronto. Is it anywhwere near the ACC?

I like The Irish Rose at Weston Rd. and Eglinton. Great pints of Guinness, friendly people and very authentically irish.
