Check out Soma in the Distillery District - it's the chocolate equivalent of single malt scotch. Pricy but amazing. I found their hot chocolate to be way too sweet for my palette, but everything else I've tried is exquisite.
I'll second the Soma vote. Their chocolates are fantastic. They roast and mill their own cocoa beans.

They also have a store on King St. W at Brant (1 block west of Spadina).

The previously mentioned Flakey bar brought back memories as well, but my tastes have changed for British chocolate, especially after the movement by the rest of european countries raising a fuss about the purity of British chocolate product. The brits put too much vegetable oil in their products. It's like those chocolate fountains some people rave about, not realizing they are basically 50% oil.

But that's what makes it taste good. It's not a secret that common confectionery chocolate is not good for you but it's not a big deal if you use moderation. I'd rather than a British Dairy Milk than a Canadian, even if it is slightly more unhealthy.

As long as you know going in, fair enough. I just can't call it quality chocolate. Kind of like a beer that has rice in it.

Purdy's but they are expensive. I only eat them when the SO buys them. Won't buy it myself.
So for you cheap is more important that quality. Unless someone else is paying? LOL

Cadbury Dairy Milk

Ritter Sport Chocolate Bars....various flavours such as Hazelnut, Marzipan, Nougat, Biscuit. Some of these are way too sweet though..such as the Coconut.

After reading these responses it looks like there's still a lot of quality chocolate that I've yet to try.

Yes, Soma is a great place for the real thing. I only go there every couple of months and their truffle selection is steep at $2 each but they're amazing - the Bergmot and Spicy Mayan Dome are my favourites. And the small bars they have along the wall are all great too.
They also do up a nice little box of 6-12 with a ribbon which makes a good gift.

+1 for SOMA. They make amazing chocolates. I've been told that they have 2 new mint chocolates coming out for Christmas. I can't wait to give it a try.

Did you say MINT?? I will definitely have to try these chocolates! There is also a place in Stratford that makes the most amazing mint chocolates called Mint Smoothies. I believe the store is called Rhéo Thompson.

Good ol' American made, from Pennsylvania, plain Hershey's chocolate. The stuff made in Mississauga has been creamed down.

Yup. Spoke with them recently and they said it'll be on their X-mas list. Didn't give a time frame though.

Lindt mini chocolates (especially the dark), for domestic (Swiss) consumption. They change the recipe for export to cater a little more to local tastes.

I also enjoy Nestle or Cadbury's milk chocolate, Hershey's milk chocolate, and the occasional chocolate confection from other fine manufacturers already mentioned.

Based on the above, it may be available at Wholefoods.
Really? I'm on my way!!!

To me, this question is like asking "What is your favourite type of blow job". In my view, any bj is a good bj.
No, not when you're cursed with girth. A small mouth combined with teeth can make for a bad BJ. :(

Speaking of truffles, has anyone tried making their own? They're really easy to make and are a super nice home made Christmas gift. I use the big PC 72% extra dark chocolate bars. You can add brandy, rum or whatever you want. Easy, fun to make and inexpensive. When you tell people they're home made they like them even more!

Go and try it. They make amazing chocolates. They make one which is balsamic vinegar flavoured. It sounds weird but is really good.
