My Panasonic point and shoot camera recently stopped working...when you turn it on, the lens comes out, the image on the display is nice and sharp and then after about 4-5 seconds, all of a sudden the camera starts to shutdown.

Is there anyone that fixes cameras and is it worth it? I am just worried that if I take it to Henry's for example, for the cost of fixing it I might as well buy a new camera.

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Maybe a battery issue? Take the battery out and see if there's a reset button behind it/them.
Try plugging it into your computer and see if it does the same thing, then you'll know if it's the battery.

I concurr with battery issue, using different cameras myself I found everyone of them shuts down when there is not enough juice (when trying to take picture). If your charger is working ok then maybe time to replace the battery.

another suggestion out in left field, check the default settings in the main menu.
But 5 secs is kinda short for display off. I will go with the battery sugg. simple but true

good luck

Thank. Have tried the new battery route, have taken batteries out and waited overnight (thinking that might be another way to reset the system) and nothing. Same problem.

any recommendations for a place to take the camera to?

Do what i do when all else fails....read the manual. Search the net as well for this type of problem and your camera model.

Good luck.

Thanks onehunglow...You are a genius! Could only find the French manual (WTF!! must have thrown the English Manual out by mistake!!!), searched the net and downloaded the manual and it showed me how to restor the factory settings. Now it works...not as well as before but it works.

Thank you to everyone else for your suggestions.

Anyone want to buy a used camera that is in working condition?
