Recently I posted an item for sale on Craigslist. Surprisingly I got a call from someone in Hamilton who wanted to come all the way to Toronto to pick it up. And so they did. The guy came to my house and I came outside to show him the stuff, which was in the back of my car. Long hair, pickup, tradesman probably. We say hello. Then he gives my car a look and says, "you must pay a lot in insurance for this." Why, I ask. "You're in the oriental area" he replied.

I didn't think much of this and changed the subject. After all, there are a fair amount of asians where I live, and many of them can't drive for shit, and white pepole do seem to LOVE the subject of asian drivers (the guy was white, as am I).

The guy bought the stuff (no haggling, which is odd) and left. Then I started to think, what kind of guy says something like that when he first meets someone? Maybe he felt intimidated to be in "the oriental area"? (actually whites outnumber anyone else in my neighbourhood.) Maybe because I'm white he thinks we can have a nice little bitch about immigrants? Maybe he's just retarded?

But it's not just him, I get this asian driver talk all the time from all kinds of white people. Does the average white people only think about beer hockey and asian drivers?

The ironic thing is, many white people also can't drive for shit. I have lived and/or worked in "oriental areas" for years and been involved in 3 accidents, two caused by whites, one caused by a black guy. One of the white guys totalled my car. A friend of mine was killed by a pickup driven by a white guy in rural ontario. Drunk drivers are nearly always white.

Could white people please STFU about asian drivers?

I almost died because of two separate Asian drivers.

Second I have seen many many accidents, and 90% of them have included Asians.

So no I am not being prejudice but realistic.

Why is it mostly always the men that cannot look both ways before turning out into an intersection when leaving a plaza or gas station. Just yesterday I am walking the stroller and wanting to keep on the sidewalk but this guy does not even notice me approaching and just blocks the sidewalk to attempt to get out into the street. He just sits there and sits there. I look to the street and see all the cars to see how soon before he can exit. Nope but all he could do is keep looking to his right. Shoot do they not teach people to look all ways before exiting a place? I have noticed this even at cross walks and kids could run out to cross the street from any direction.

I'm not saying I have not seen women do this to, but I think I have only seen a woman do this once. Needless to say you have to enforce making eye contact with drivers with your kids before walking out in front of any car these days so that you know that you are about to cross and that they for real stop.

If Hamiltonians are "rednecks" or people hiding the fact that they are rednecks, then I guess by your reasoning all BBW (so you call yourself) may be fat pigs, or people conducting themselves in an effort to hide the fact that they are fat pigs. No offense.

mmouse is probably talking about Markham or Scarberia as the "Asian neighbourhood". I live there, as well, am Asian and am a very good driver!

But I know what the "white" people are talking about with Bad Asian drivers. There was a thread about this 6 years ago, that got deleted because it turned into a raciallly charged discussion, LOL!

I would say the Asian drivers, especially women, are cautious and slow, not really bad drivers. They piss me off as much as anyone, since they always get in my way!

I'm a white guy. I think about beer, I admit it. I also think about single malt scotch. I currently have 5 malts, and a blend for company. I rarely think about hockey, unless it is to make sure that the Leaf's are playing so I can get 50 cent wings at the local pub. I sometimes think about asians, but usually it is in the context of an in call.

being a contractor, i drive my fair share, and while i don't wish to be racist, i do have to say that the majority of the dicks i come across on the road, are asians. they drive 70-80 kmh in the left lane on the highway, and refuse to move over. when i go to pass them, i see why...they are holding the wheel for all they are worth, and looking straight ahead like they are scared to take their eyes off the road for one second to see what is around/behind them. this is just the tip of the iceberg, as there is so much more.

you can call me whatever you'd like after this post, frankly i don't care, but i tend to be simply realistic.

It's a proven fact that Asians have a narrower range of peripherial vision then other races; mainly due to the shape of the eye.

Now, how one presents those two pieces of information, is determined by that person's attiudes and opinions...

"Because Asians see differently, they tend to be more prone to vehicle accidents." - same statement, presented in a more acceptable way.

Anyways - my point is, like most stereotypes, the problem of "DWA" (Driving While Asian) - is based on real, and valid, information - but it's grown into something beyond that...

And for the record - I live in a community with a highly concentrated asian (mostly Japanese) population - maybe 20-25%? But 70% of MVC's involve at least one Asian driver.

Much higher? Your own data refutes that. If there is 25% asian population,
statistically, 56% of accidents should involve at least one asian. You say 70%,
which hardly qualifies as "much higher" than 56%, especially if we set the
uncertainty level of your 70% to +/- 20%.
