If you are a professional photographer, then we all understand why. But for those who are only amateur photographers and have such a high quality camera, what has prompted you to purchase such a high-end camera? Also, which camera do you own?

I myself am considering the $4000 Canon 5DSR. A sample photo from it is below. If you actually download the photo and zoom in, the quality and detail gets even better and better. It is 50 megapixels.

I have a Nikon 3ds, I bought it for sports and event photography - fast focusing, high speed shutter speed and high ISO performance are the reasons.

The real cost is in the glass....

I see that it is discontinued, but probably cost about $4000 at the time. Very impressive.

Nice photo, but really, should we have kid pictures on this board?
Can you replace it with a naked lady?

I used to shoot a 1Ds2 and am thinking of getting a 1Dx2 when it comes out in the spring. I shoot semi-professionaly, mostly doing landscapes and because I want to shoot in any weather and need the ruggedness I prefer the pro bodies.

Is that Ken Rockwell's kid?

Here you go. But I have no idea which camera it came from. But you can download and zoom in on any part of her. To the experts here, what example camera is capable of this?

I have a Canon EOS Rebel T5i 18 MP. It is light to hold and does the job. The pro cameras are heavier, since I am not a pro I do not need more. You can upgrade to the T6i 24.2 MP, but it makes no great difference to me. Get what meets your needs.

Why are you considering the 5DSR? What will you be planning on shooting mostly? Portraits?

You could get something like a Nikon D3300 with a NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G and get excellent results. You will have enough money left to buy a high end P&S like a Sony RX100 Mk IV which you may ending up using more often anyway.

I am waiting for the 6d mii to come out or a good full frame mirror less alternative that works well with Canon lens. Right now I sold my 60D and lenses for lx100 plus change because low light DR and IQ are really good for a P&S. My main priorities are dynamic range and low light performance followed by nice portrait ability.

If they release a full frame mirrorless with the above and that does crisp video I'd drop $3k in a heartbeat.

BTW, that kid picture above has a way shallow field of depth for his face and makes it look off a bit. I am assuming that is not your photo but a sample you found ona site. Some people abuse the shallow depth of field particular from full frame camera abilities.

In the end it depends on what you need it to do. Some people need the build quality, fast autofocus, etc. and are willing to pay a premium. Sometimes you can find what you need for a way cheaper price.

I have a Canon 5d Mark III. Great camera, weighs a ton with the glass. Also a Fuji XPro1. Great camera, but the AF is disappointing. Will be giving them to my brothers kids and picking up a Sony Alpha 7Rii.

I agree with this, I have more than 2X money in lenses than in the cameras.....
Agreed. I went from a Canon 5D to 6D to now my current Sony A7II. And probably spent 5X the price of the body on lenses. (Especially with the price of the Sony and Zeiss lenses.).

Consider the Sony A7 series, it's great for portability although the glass can cost you a pretty penny. I switched as DSLR's at not as travel friendly, and that's when I take the vast majority of my pictures.

Have you looked into the A7S full frame? Its hard not to switch over from Canon with such crazy low light and DR? I might have to follow the same as it seems like I just keep on waiting for Canon to release the mirrorless full frame with nothing but rumors.

Lenses are more important than the actual camera and to be honest, MPs are really just overkill these days. A good camera with lense kit only needs 24....

Put more money in the lenses.
Completely agree... a great camera with a shitty lens is going to take a shitty picture. A consumer camera with a good lens will take a surprisingly great picture.

Its like guys spending tons of money on golf clubs and getting the latest driver.... spend the money on a lesson your game will improve more than buying new clubs!
