Obviously you didn't do your homework.
Yes well, it happens sometimes.

I blew through an article way too fast, obviously.
What I saw was his profit from last year. lol

Still do not think the Wings can offer more money then the Leafs.

We have to be realistic, he's not going to get more than the highest paid player in the league, I'm betting there are numourous clubs that would fork over $5-6 million a year for him.

We may find out shortly what he's going to do, NBC sports site had a quote stating he will make a decision in about 10 days what he wants to do for next year. He's under contract until June 30 so he can't talk to anybody else except Detroit unless they give him permission to listen to other offers. In the same article St. Louis and Boston are also interested along with Toronto, Buffalo, San Jose, Edmonton, Philadelphia. That's a lot of choices available to him. Hes also quoted as saying he wants no part of being a GM.

Pittsburgh NEEDS him more than anyone else. Barring that, Chicago & St. Louis are already excellent teams, while Boston & Philly are can be rehabilitated fairly quickly.

I think Babcock cares very much about his legacy and track record and it will take an obscene amount of money to make him sell out and take an option with a high risk of failure or too many years away from serious Cup aspirations.

Chicago, St/ Louis & San Jose are in a much tougher conference, so that's one strike against them. Chicago is already good and having won TWO recent championships with the current core & coach, Babcock will be judged to a very high standard - anything short of adding one more Cup will be a flop - and in that conference, it's going to be very tough.

Bruins, Pens or Flyers are a bit more of a project, but not too big, and in a more winnable conference.

Then there's also Detroit, who just seem to find good players and bring them along right yer after year, could do a lot worse than stay there.

OR they could offer him coach/gm
That would be a bad move.

The Leafs need a Ken Holland more than a Mike Babcock now. They need a GM who can find the talent. Babcock can coach but has no resume as a GM.

Pittsburgh would be a good fit.

I wonder if the Pens will trade one of Malkin or Crosby? Maybe they'll talk the Oilers out of their draft pick...

Detroit is one of the least desirable cities to live in. That might be reason enough for him to move.

On the subject of Malkin and Crosby .. Pittsburg's failure to score or win was attributed to speculation that both are hurt and we will find that out when playoffs over but all we found out was they were both going to play in the Worlds ..

They changed coaches last summer and same result occurred ...

Assuming this is true, it just proves once again that the Leafs are not serious about contending. They have no incentive to try to build a winner seeing as they already make so much money.

Babcock had his meeting with the Leafs over the weekend, next up is Buffalo over the next day or two. I assume he's going to listen to every club that's interested then go from there.

Too bad, I thought Craig's post was something more than Pam Ewing waking up to see Bobby still alive, taking a shower.

So only Toronto and Buffalo have filed paperwork giving Detroit a draft pick should they sign Babcock, so it looks like a three horse race between Detroit, Buffalo and Toronto. Babcock has stated he will make his decision public no later than May 20th.

Out of curiosity how is this 'not trying' as the Leafs are concerned ?

The Leafs don't need Babcock at the moment, but then they are always in the business of giving up draft picks.
