Buffalo TV station WIVB reports Babcock is in contract talks with the Sabres. If it comes down to a Buffalo/Detroit bidding war, I can't see Pegula losing.

Offer reportedly around 50 million. If you believe coaches make that big a difference it's not as ludicrous as it seems.

At this point Leafs still have no GM or head coach and they also got rid of most of the coaching staff with the Marlies. Makes you wonder just who they are going to target seeing as most of the well known names have signed on with other clubs. Although I believe they are seeking permission to speak to Sault Ste. Marie's coach as a possible candidate for the Marlies head coaching position.

Looks like the Leafs may get him after all. Latest report is Detroit and Buffalo are out of the running. Toronto, St. Louis and San Jose are left but I assumed St. Louis and San Jose we're going in other directions instead of Babcock, maybe they changed their mind at the last minute.

San Jose out at last report, Blues and Leafs last ones standing. Funny thing is two days ago Babcock stated he wouldn't take Hitchcocks job away from him. Leafs have to be the favourite now. Of course they still have a lot of work to do little talent at the NHL level and a lot of youngsters who have yet to show anything.

Leafs have their man. $50 million over 8 yrs. now the pressure will be on. You don't pay a guy like Babcock that kind of money not to make the playoffs.

Great news!!!

I'm from Detroit area, and I think he's going to Toronto. He's already won in Detroit, if he can win it in Toronto, he would be a God! In Detroit he is kind of taken for granted. I mean hockey is 3rd in Detroit, it goes Lions, Tigers then the Wings and Pistons last. When the Pistons were rolling in the late 80's, the Wings were dead last in popularity. So why not go to Toronto and be the big fish.
You were right mjg1. Well done!

I told you guys he was going to Toronto, it's almost the perfect opportunity not to pass up. I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong! :D

His time in Detroit had just ran its course, and he's still young enough to have that fire. He's a Canadian and their are two great storied organizations, Montreal and Toronto. The Red Wings are nice and good, but it's not the Meeca of hockey! He has done almost everything else, so why not accept the challenge of turning the Maple Leafs around. I wish Mike Babcock all the best in Toronto!
