Fuji, the point is that a person's home should be off limits. I'd have no issue with them ambushing him at City Hall or at a public event. That's fair game. The CBC crossed the line.
You know what I love about this? People make it sound like the CBC crawled in through the window and terrorized his home. For fuck's sake, Rob Ford is a big, strapping boy with a vicious temper and likes to verbally abuse anyone that gets in his way. So let's just assume for a moment he's a fucking adult, and not a petulant, bullying child. They approached him on his driveway, not in his home. So yes, technically, they were "at his home", but just barely.
Any ADULT would have said "please, this is my home, can we do this at my office" and taken the air right out of the skit and basically turned public opinion on a dime. Problem motherfucking solved. After they don't get off his property, he just goes back inside, waits for them to leave. Bingo.
What's fascinating to me is here's a guy who was democratically elected (as in: he sought the job), is the Mayor of the biggest city in Canada, and has publicly acted like a moronic jackass on every possible occasion, yet the Right goes apeshit over a CBC comedy show, and starts the sympathy train and the violins over.....NOTHING. As if he was some Joe Blow who got trapped and assaulted at his home. He's a very important PUBLIC figure, who avoids the media like the plague. Not saying I blame him, but guess what happens when you avoid the media like the plague AS A PUBLIC FIGURE. People come looking for you.
Grow some big boy pants if you're gonna be in the hot seat and cut your knife through people's lives. We can argue whether what you're doing is good for the city, but please spare me the fucking whining on what was a harmless comedy sketch.
I find the guy offensive in too many other ways. The lack of culture, any sense of vision for the "city he loves", no accommodation to its history, stupid asshole comments about gays, Chinese, physically intimidating reporters who piss him off....the list goes on.
Bottom line: Ford got caught showing his true colors: dishing it with a heart of gold, but crying like a child when someone--gently--skewers him in his driveway. Grow the fuck up.
As I said before, David Miller was MUCH tougher than Rob Ford. (Not saying Miller was a good mayor, just saying by comparison)
