Joe Thornton is old and has never won anything. Plus he won't fit in Shanny's rebuild process.
True but the leafs would still need some experience center men and whos to say that he wouldn't win one in TO? Remember a certain ballplayer named Dave Winfield,
he played on a lot of good Yankee teams and still didn't win the big one.

Not with the Yankees.

Just got finished watching Vancouver Canucks lunch, Bob McKenzie was on the phone and he explained that when the wings gave Babcock permission to talk to other teams To was the first ones to call and offered him the 8yr 50m deal. Babcock listened to other offers and was pretty sure he was going to Buffalo, however,on Tuesday Shanny appealed to Babcocks ego and gave him the speach about how it would feel to be part of the management team that turn this franchise around...Babcock was sold....Sorry Buffalo but it's nice to be the team that stole a big named person for once instead of it always happening to us...who am I fooling, I'm not sorry at all LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!! I hate Buffalo!!!!!

I wonder how Babcocks signing is going to effect free agency and some of them coming to TO?
Unfortunately there's not a lot to choose from this summer. I don't believe there's any real star players available. It's going to get harder to get star players as FA as the trend seems to be that most teams are locking up their key guys to long term deals, much like the Leafs did with Kessel and Phaneuf.

If they do turn this thing around Shanny would be the first ever to be inducted to the Hall as both a player and a builder. Imagine that.

I know, that is what I was referring to when I stated that he had to come to TO in order to win the big one, Joe Thorton is on a good team but hasn't won the cup.
Joe Thornton is not going to win the big one in Toronto. The jays were a playoff level team looking to get over the top. This is not where the leafs so not sure why you are bringing Thornton into the mix.

You either rebuild or you don't. Trading picks or young assets for players like Thornton right now is retooling and is dumb for where you are at on the franchise success cycle.

In 3-5 years time you hope you have the core where a trade for a veteran helps you take one of your final steps. Now is the wrong time.

Yes your right, what about Cody Franson he is interested in returning, Carl Soderberg of the Bruins good center 2nd in Bruins scoring for center behind Patrice Bergeron, and that's about it everyone else is in there 30s, right wingers or defencemen.

I'm not sugggesting that Thornton is the guy to put them over the top, not at all but they need a power center to play with Kessel (if he is still here) however, i think it is a mute point because I'm sure that he has a no trade or movement clause in his contract

After, hopefully, getting rid of Kessel and Phaneuf what about trading for Joe Thorton, the power forward we haven't had since Sundin and oh so desperately need.
His contract isn't all that bad. 2015-17 Contract $6,750,000 per yr - Cap hit $6,750,000
Sure, maybe Joe Thornton 20 years ago. What's the point? Leafs are rebuilding. Joe might get them to the middle of the pack again. Miss the playoffs and bad draft pick. You're delusional if you think Joe is the missing piece to a championship team.

The Leafs also signed Detroit assistant coach Jim Hiller who coaches the powerplay. He will probably coach the powerplay for the Leafs but without...........Kessel? LOL!

I'm guessing the Leafs will keep Kessel. He has his downside but when he's on he is an elite scorer. One horrible half season in his career.

Right now, he is the only bona fide sniper the Leafs have. Virtually guaranteed 35 goals a year. The problem is that he is strictly a one way player.

So is Patrick Kane and he gets a lot of accolades. Use him the way Chicago uses Kane. 2nd line for offence only. That means of course Leafs would need to get a first line.

That's true but the downside is he has no heart and is a poor example for young players. Also by the time toronto is turned around (at least four years) he will be in decline. So I would trade him now if it's possible. The problem is he showed the whole league what kind of guy he is over the second half.
