Shoulda fired her fat ass and wrote it into the script.
Tisk, tisk, tisk, making fun of someone's appearance is not kosher. Neither John Goodman nor Laurie Metcalf, both critically acclaimed actors, have no desire to continue the show without Roseanne.

Rodney Dangerfield didn't get along with Jerry Lewis, he disagreed with the Paris sensation that female comics weren't funny. Rodney toured with a number of female comics, most notably Roseanne and Marsha Warfield (Night Court). Roseanne even did double duty as his wife.

Ah, so making fun of someones appearance instead of their skin colour makes it OK then??
Huh?

This is the direct quote: " “I actually really like Sarah. I think she’s very resourceful. But she burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smokey eye. Like maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies. It’s probably lies.” "

I don't care what you think of Michelle Wolf, Sarah Huckabee Sanders or anyone else, that joke is not making fun of anyone's appearance.

Why do you want to believe that it does?

Trailer trash, always was, always will be.
I never liker her or her old show and never saw the new one. Apparently it was popular but I bet that was just the first couple episodes. People probably were curious and knew about the Trumpian political stance which got a lot of hype. ANYWAY....GOOD RIDDANCE

As far a second race goes, the "joke" runs deeper. While VJ has black ancestry, based on her wiki, it appears that she is primarily of Iranian heritage, hence Roseanne's Muslim brotherhood mention.
What is that based on?? That is, her having primairly Iranian heritage.

Thanks for the quote. I could have sworn the joke was about Sarah's make up and not her actual features. I can't see how anyone with a modicum of intelligence would compare this with calling a someone an ape. How???

Totally making fun of her weird, hanging eye.

Not that I give 2 shits though.

Cheers!!
Good grief. Smokey eye is not the same as lazy eye or whatver it is you THINK it is. It's a make up technique!! The girl in your sig pic has it on.

Some of you Trump supporters need to really do research, engage your brains and stop relying on alt-facts that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I loved her show and I don't believe she's a flat out racist. Rosanne is bi polar, she revealed on the Howard Stern show that she takes Cymbalta for her condition. She's more self destructive than she is racist.
That is a cop-out bullshit excuse. You don't call black people Apes, TWICE on twitter, because you are Bi-Polar.

Roseanne is a comedian and as far I know has always been one. I have never seen any TV shows or movies she has been in but I have heard some funny lines from clips.
Comedy has always given a wider berth to "freedom of speech" and without that tolerance there never would have been George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor,Eddie Murphy,Chris Rock etc etc etc.

Roseanne is not on the same level as the above IMO and I'm not a fan, but there shouldn't be a double standard

Except this was not on a stage, or any type of stand-up, and even if it was, this would not be considered comedy.

The sad part is all of her colleagues are also out of a job. They should sue her!
This is the sad part. 200 crew members are now out of work.

Roseanne Barr has been tasteless for as long as I can remember her.

That said I didn't see her comment as racist as much as it was typically nasty and mean spirited.

I do find it ironic that the likes of Michelle Wolf can say just about anything and there is even redemption for Kathleen (Kathy) Griffin.

Frankly Roseanne Barr and her cast can probably make more money by taking the show onto pay-per-view.
I am sorry Ardy, but what world do you live in? Where has it ever, like EVER, been acceptable and not seen as racist, to compare a black person to an ape???

It is hard to believe, that there are people here on Terb, who are defending somebody calling black people apes. This is Canada for crissakes, not Alabama.
I know! I am floored by this. I mean look at Ardy, a respected laywer on this board, reducing this to nasty and mean-spirited???? I don't know or understand where some people's heads are at.

LOL danmand is right.

Your reply reminds of an old union busting cartoon from the 80's. The union buster is getting his arm twisted by Koko Beware, he looks back to see that beware is about to tag in Andre the Giant.

In other words, I'd be less worried about Rosanne calling black people apes rather than the threats to President Obama's life courtesy of Donald Trump and Sarah Palin. They genuinely want to see Obama lynched.

He lives in a world of hierarchy and social strata that last existed in the gilded age (early 1900's) where the upper class were to be regarded as dignified and regal and the rest of us should know our place and never dare question their rank and privilege. In short, he lives in the past. He will always take the position that the titled and the upper class are better people.

He's not necessarily a "Make America Great Again" fellow because he's not a rabid red neck republican, but he does long for the long gone Anglo American upper class system of rank and titles.

His world is like that you see portrayed in James Cameron's film Titanic, or more satirically in any Monty Python "Upper Class Twit of the Year" sketches.

I would agree threats to someone's life would trump Rosanne's racism, but this thread is about Rosanne, not trump. Or at least should be.

Hatred is hatred. Whether it's Rosanne's misguided twets or Sarah Palin indirectly calling for Obama's lynching during the 2008 Presidential election. Laurie Metcalf siad it herself, Rosanne makes poor decisions when she goes off her meds.

When she's on her meds, she makes smart decisions like hiring Whitney Cummings to be the show runner of the reboot. Again, I don't believe that Rosanne is an outright racist.

I'm wondering if they would have the guts to kill her character off.
I agree with you about Goodman and the rest of the cast.

They should just write her out. Sudden car crash and decapitation.

Let the show continue without her. Opens up a pile of story lines.
Not going to happen. Rosanne is the Executive Producer. There's not a chance they would kill her off and continue the series. She would continue to make money from every episode.
