If you disband the police, black criminals will take over the streets leading to so-called racist incidents like the one in Minneapolis.

There's a trick to searching google images so only the hottest ones show up, but I'm gonna keep that a secret.

I think defunding (not necessarily abolishing) Toronto police should be a valid question to be asked during elections; if the NDP or the Liberals want it, then they should put the proposal and to what degree it should be defunded, and where to cut

Of course it shouldn't be defunded because some noisy minority demands it

The inmates (a.k.a. liberals) have taken over the asylum. The Korean storekeepers will dust off their long guns. It's no wonder Americans refuse to give up their AR-15's and AK-47's. Rich people will form their own armed militias (who's going to stop them?).

Los Angeles Riots of 1992, major outbreak of violence, looting, and arson in Los Angeles that began on April 29, 1992,

P.S. In a prior life, my job responsibilities included Brazil. They don't actually have a functioning police force. Instead, rich people and honest hardworking storekeepers would hire "security guards" and petty criminals like George Floyd would simply "disappear". Also, no protest or demonstrations are tolerated.

I voted yes because the sanity in our society has to be restored, somehow. And if that takes a few months of mayhem, so be it. Something must silence those morons promoting their idiotic ideas. And nothing returns sanity as the realization that your ass is literally on the line.

There's an old Arabic adage, supposedly from the middle ages, that goes like this:

"Better sixty years of tyranny, than one night of anarchy."

Sounds a little over the top re: the number of years, but full on anarchy is the enemy of civilization.

This is interesting.
Does everyone here think that these are calls to abolish the concept of law enforcement?

It's completely unexplained. No one knows what "defund the police" means.

Does it mean just to put financing and governance under a different agency / system? Does it mean no police? - If the latter, it's truly fucking insane.

One of the talking heads on CNN last night said "defunding" means changing the policing model not abolishing the police force. His idea is to send unarmed social workers instead of armed police to "de-escalate" interactions with mentally ill folks. Also, unarmed "civilian" police to deal with traffic stops.

BTW: He didn't mention anything about the police throwing black women over balconies.

Minnesota just voted for no police.

Even "dismantle the police department" doesn't tell you much. Will they build a new one? (Like they did in Camden - fired all the police and rebuilt the department differently.)
I'm sure there are some hard core anarchists somewhere who believe "defund the police" means decriminalizing all behavior, but I doubt most people do. Most mean getting rid of proactive policing - patrols and harassing people for petty crime. You would still have law enforcement where people report crimes and it is investigated and dealt with.

But at this point, it is a slogan that covers a lot of different approaches to a general goal of reducing police power.
