I just can't believe this shit, driving through a residential area, come to stop sign at T intersection. [this I admit] Did not come to a complete stop, almost but not fully, saw the cop sitting there, too late, he pulls me over, comes to my window, the partner, not bad looking , young female, braces on teeth, says "So you know why we stopped you", I thought I had not come to a complete stop, "Well you only stopped because you saw us" NOooo.. I sez, thats not the reason but just started looking for my licence because I didn't want to cause any friction, she goes back to car, wait maybe 4 minutes now he is coming.."Get out of truck sir, you will not be driving , you have no licence"
WHAT!!!! you are mistaken, I am confussed, he shows me my drivers licence that expired July 07....
I'm just floored, I'm saying wait, it must be a mistake somehow, I wasn't notified or something, I know thats no excuse. BUT, how many people know what year there licence expires,,
Now here she comes again, hands me 2 tickets, one for stopping on THE WRONG SIDE OF THE LINE!!! WTF is that....$110
second ticket, driving with no licence.....$325
I walked around the corner, there is a ministry there, got the new licence, went back, showed the cop, pleaded it was just a mistake, my fault? ministries fault? whatever it was JUST A MISTAKE.........

You can likely have the fines reduced if you speak to the prosecuter. I dont know all the details, but worth checking out.

Hes lucky they did not impound his car. That be towing fees and storage fees-even for a few hours. Plus usually they tow it clear across town.

Like I said....it was a MISTAKE, I don't even remember getting the notice, this is not like me, I got the plate notice, even paid for 2 years, I would have gotten the licence at the same time...

Consider yourself lucky.

If you were to get into a bad accident without a valid driver's license, you wouldn't be covered by insurance.

Almost same story

This happen to my Uncle. Both notices came in plate and licenses renewal. The guy is around 64 thinking of retirement.
Somehow, this was later found out after all events, the licenses paper fell behind the kitchen cabinet which was found 4 months later.

Well he goes to the MTO for the Plate renewal, since he doesn't remember the license renewal just goes his merry way. A few months later he had to fill out a form that required his license, and realized his license was expired.

Went to MTO, a girl of the same ethnic language works there. HE spoke to her about new one then he simply asked" Why didn't the counter person realized I had to get a licenses renewal done as well? She had no answer.
Then he asked isn't the computer supposed to notify you or isn't there like a check marked required?

Go figure I think it is done on purpose to get us fined.
