Recently heard Tracy Chapman for the first time in years. Woman can sing.

Great tune. Hip hop duo Nice and Smooth sampled it on 'Sometimes I Rhyme Slow' which went to #1 on the rap charts.

🔥 remix of LL Cool J's 'Mama Said Knock You Out'

The sample being used is George McCrae's 'I Get Lifted'

Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) by Digable Planets
This album turns 30 today. I remember buying this CD back in 1993 and just being blown away. The jazz hip hop fusion was incredible.

Just heard this on Soul Town this evening. Didn't realize Gene Chandler could get down like that. Sounds nothing like Duke of Earl or Groovy Situation.

Iconic music composer Burt Bacharach died today at his home in Los Angeles, CA at the age of 94. Mr. Bacharach and his writing partner Hal David penned some glorious songs with singer Dionne Warwick in the 1960's - Walk On By, Anyone Who Had a Heart and this one which was later covered by Luther Vandross. Such a beautiful composition

King T (Tee) was one of the early west coast rap pioneers. This is from his debut album Act a Fool released in 1988. Definitely one of my favorite west coast MC's

The Coolest

Great sample of The Meters 'Cissy Strut'

So I've been searching Google and YouTube for the past hour or so trying to find a song I've heard last night on Soul Town and the artist and song title has completely slipped my mind.
What I do know it was a female singer and the song had love in the title. It was my first time hearing the song since my teens. It had a sound like mid to late 60's. For a second I thought it was a song by the Lovelites but I went through their discog and its not them. It has a slow to mid tempo and it reminds me of Its Gonna Take a Miracle by Deniece Williams.

In the meantime I came across this song from 1965, I'm pretty sure it hasn't been posted here before. Really diggin' it

Another great song written by Curtis Mayfield. This dude is ridiculously underrated for his contributions to black music.
