Lately I can't stop playing Mary Jane Girls "my house"
This was an early 80s girl group put together by Rick James
Definitely got the Rick James signature sound. Killer tune.

Saw The Trammps live at The Limelight disco in Montreal in the late 70's. Their set included Disco Inferno. Full band like in the video below. Great show...

Here is my fave Trammps song:

That one was also a "Carolinas Beach Music" classic!
Oh my forgot about that one. Going on my playlist now. Fire.

Another artist who rose to prominence thanks to Rick James was Teena Marie aka Lady T. He produced her debut album. This was a nice track from it

"I'm Just a Sucker For Your Love"

They did a duet a couple years later which appeared on James album 'Street Songs'

"Fire and Desire"

One of my favorite Teena Marie joints right here.

"Behind the Groove"

And this one was one of her signature hits. You definitely get Rick James vibe from this

"Square Biz"

Oh this extended mix of my girl Evelyn "Champagne" King is immaculate. I know why there was a backlash against disco music back in 1979 but it couldn't have been because of music like this.

"I Don't Know If It's Right"

Who remembers Jasmine Guy from the Cosby Show and A Different World? She released one LP which I completely forgot about. This was from 1990

"Just Wanna Hold You". Featuring James Ingram. Produced by Rex Salas. Keyboards: Chuckii Booker. This reached #34 on the Hot 100 her most successful single.

Lisa Fischer was a prolific backup singer. Featured on many artists albums and concerts in the 1980's and 1990's. Most notably for Luther Vandross but also toured with the Rolling Stones, Chaka Khan and Billy Ocean. In 1991 she released her hit song "How Can I Ease the Pain" which went to #1 on the R&B charts and #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was from the LP 'So Intense' which I just listened to in full recently. Its actually a very good album and features production from Narada Michael Walden and Luther Vandross. I especially like this title track

"So Intense"

Just found this gem recently. Anyone heard of this group? I think its around early 70's. Easy Mo Bee grabbed a two second guitar riff at around 0:33 of this video and looped it for Biggie's "Machine Gun Funk".

"Something Extra" by Black Heat

"Machine Gun Funk" by Notorious B.I.G.

Was visiting a buddy in Parkdale in the afternoon and waiting in the shop while he was getting his hair cut, this song came on --- forgot all about it, big names in it.

KRS One's line nailed it, although ironically it was on a big media label. Meanwhile the shop has a good mix of white, black and a couple of Asian dudes and we're all in there laughing about the BS going on today.

Black and white ain't the real fight,
that's the only thing the media hypes!

Cherchez La Femme

The video looks like it was shot in Studio 54.

The song itself was a huge disco classic, that apparently was first a huge hit in the lesbian clubs...

I first heard this song thanks to the Ghostface Killah track "Cherchez La Ghost"
